Got lucky and found some Bigfoot, been looking for it for almost a year.

And like everything SV makes, it's overly bitter. Bearing through that, it's pretty tasty. Not worth $9 for the 4-pack though. Would pay $1.50/bottle if I actually wanted it.

>> No.4146330

>>4146322
They only release it once a year and it just hit shelves. This year it moved to 4 packs for the same price as a six =| If you find it too bitter, stash it in a cool dark place for a year and try it again. I've got bottles as old as '97.

I opened a new bottle of Cornelius Applejack, this sort of hipster microdistillery stuff from upstate. It's pink unlike all the pictures I found on the internet. I was expecting something like a calvados but this is just weird. It has kind of a fake berry smell and bubblegum aftertaste. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do with it?

Dang, I forgot that I wanted to go get some of this. Have you guys tried the Narwhal? I don't know if it's still being sold or if it's a seasonal.

>> No.4146374

>>4146365

Fuck, so it's probably not on shelves? And I agree, I just wanted to give it a try.

I might venture out to try to nab some Bigfoot to cellar.

>> No.4146381

>>4146360

I know that traditional applejack is freeze distilled, but this stuff is supposed to be column/pot distilled. Which, I gather, is what they use in France. When you say they are different, do you mean freeze distilled applejack or is that not something that people do anymore?

In any case, what do you do with this stuff? It would be a shame for this bottle to gather dust, the label says it has 60 pounds of apples inside...

>> No.4146385

>>4146374
Hard to say. I think it hit shelves late Oct/early Nov in most markets.

>> No.4146391

I'm having a rather cheap red wine (49 sek) that was pretty good.

On a ralted note, how do you store open bottles? in the refridgerator?

>> No.4146395

>>4146381
Calvados has strict laws regarding its production and aging. It's distilled in such a way to preserve as much apple character as possible.

Applejack is essentially apple eau de vie. I mean, theoretically you could find some generic apple brandy that rivals Calvados in quality, but the bar is set so much lower it's a real crapshoot.

>> No.4146440

>>4146381
Also, if it is true freeze distilled applejack I'd be somewhat wary of small and inexperienced producers. Freeze distillation more than any other method tends to concentrate undesirable elements such as methanol and fusel alcohols. I love an eisbock, but I only get freeze distillates from old and reputable breweries/distilleries.

In short, just don't drink too much if it's frozen applejack or you might have a killer hangover.

>> No.4146492

I don't think it's actually freeze distilled, but the weird bubblegum smell really puts me off this stuff. It's probably just oak interacting with the flavor of the apple skins, but this is 2hip4me. Definitely not drinking a second glass. I'll probably just have some wine instead.
