Spice Hut - best curry ever

King AYCE on 16th ave - $0.25 chicken wings in about 20 different flavours. Also bubble tea (buttload of varieties) if you're into that. And french bread (many different toppings). Seriously those are the only things on the menu.

Falafel King - 'nuff said.

Pfanntastic Pannenkoek Haus - I live really far away from here or I'd go once a week. SO good.

Kinjo (Dalhousie) - Kind of campy, moderately priced. More of a fun experience when the owner comes brandishing his sushi knife, threatening the men and giving the ladies free pocky. The sushi is not great, but better than most places in the city.

Piss poor San Diegan here. I almost never eat out, but when I do, I tend to go to:

>1. Stockdale's Fine Southern Cuisine
Really good Southern food: fried chicken and catfish; red beans and rice; hush puppies; collard greens; sweet potato pie etc. They even have all you can eat buffets on Sunday and Friday. On Friday evenings, they even get a blues band to come out. It's just a shame the place seems so empty all the time.

>2. K-T Donuts in Spring Valley.
Not the greatest donuts ever in the world, but they make a solid donut at a reasonable price. I especially like one of the workers. When I first started going there, I asked him what donuts he would recommend, and he replied that he could help me, since he HATES donuts!

>3. Shakespeare's Pub
It's kind of pricey but my friend likes going there. I swear it's owned by Australians who try to pass themselves off as English. If I knew accents better I would know for sure. Their fish and chips are my favorite.

>4. Sombrero Mexican Food
A chain restaurant based in San Diego. Very good food for a reasonable price. Get their chimichangas if you have the chance. It's only five dollars for a whole styrofoam box of cheesey, meaty, oily, creamy goodness.

That's about it. Like I said, I don't eat out much. There IS a Godfather's Pizza nearby. I've been meaning to try that out since it will bring back happy memories of Herman Cain and his 9-9-9 Plan. Anyone ever eaten at a Godfather's Pizza? How are they?

Kihei, Maui, Hawaii

In no order:

1) Da Kitchen (Hawaiian style food.) Broke da mouth, seriously. This is a cheap, fast, and above all outstanding place to eat, one of my favorites. They do Hawaiian and local dishes better than anyone else (I'm looking at you, L&L.) Recommended dish: the lau lau. If you aren't local, a reminder: take the outer wrapping of leaves off before you try to eat it.

2) Cafe O'Lei. This is quite a bit classier than Da Kitchen; ignore the rather tired, faded, and weatherbeaten canopy over the front door, the inside's much classier than its condition implies. The mac nut crusted chicken is to. DIE. for. and lunch prices are a song (by Maui standards.)

3. There's a lunch wagon always parked just a little bit up Alanui Keali'i from the beach Kam I. This is some -absolutely- incredible local-influenced food, god tier, sold at about half the price or less than it would be in a restaurant. I especially recommend the coconut shrimp plate lunch, but I've never had anything from this truck I didn't just rave about afterwards.

4. This is gonna sound strange, but Times supermarket on Fridays. They do steak plate lunches, served into the evening, then that are both cheap and outstandingly delicious.

5. Can't choose a fifth, so holding off for now.

>Lucha Libre in Mission Hills

For your Mexican food fix. It was featured in Man vs Food and I would highly recommend it if you're looking for outstanding, gigantic burritos. Second to this would be Lolita's Taco Shop.

>Truluck's in University City

Great seafood. They catch their own crab so it's delivered fresh to the restaurant on a daily basis. I also recommend The Fish Market near Seaport Village.

>BiCE Ristorante in the Gaslamp Quarter

Best Italian food. Ever. And the service is great too. For a more family-oriented setting, try Filipi's Pizza Grotto.

>Hodad's in Ocean Beach and Downtown

Best burgers in San Diego, hands down. But there is always a long wait, so just call in an order and pick it up or else you'll face long lines. I also love Rocky's Crown Pub, it's a close contender.

>Convoy Tofu House in Kearny Mesa

The service sucks ass, but if you can get past that, they really have some great Korean food.
I also recommend Pho Hoa in City Heights if you're seeking really good Pho and don't mind their crappy ambiance and horrible parking. For the opposite experience, you can visit the five star Tajami Sushi and Japanese Tapas Restaurant.

>Lynnwood, WA

Sushi Land (conveyor belt sushi place, very good and not too expensive for one or two people)
Azteca (Yeah, it's a chain, but the enchiladas there are god tier, every time)
Old Country Buffet (it's pretty average 'American' food, but it's good enough and it being a buffet really helps)

I honestly don't go out to eat very often and when I do it's usually those places, so I can only think of three that are actually in Lynnwood. For other good ones I have to drive into Edmonds or Everett or something.

Oakland, CA I don't eat out at many different restaurants or as much as some of my friends because I'm cheap but I pay for myself and a bit of theirs sometimes if they don't have any singles on hand.
1. Yummy Guide
HK style cafe. Meals starting at $2.99 that would get you by for lunch or as a filler(some might call supper) until you get home.
2. Shooting Star Cafe(across the street)
HK style cafe, extremely large menu and a bit more expensive than Yummy Guide. Dessert and fruit drinks are huge portions. Pretty packed usually because of the amount of food you can get for under $8 so it is rather noisy on top of the tv and music playing. Daily specials are $3.75ish I think; entree, hot tea/milk tea, and soup(chicken or vegetable minestrone usually).
3. Pho Huynh Hiep
Noodle soups, fried dishes, vermicelli dishes. Pretty good portions for ~$7, you will regret going during the summer as there is no AC, only a few fans. Service has really gone down in the 18years I've been going there, this generation of teenagers really have attitude problems when they're stuck in a service job.
4. Taco trucks
There are a lot of them around here, each with some differences like choices of meats and the free sides that come with them. I never plan to make burritos so I just buy them because lack of marinated beef.
5. Ba le
I've been eating banh mis since I was 6, 25 now. Ba le is pretty good, they have over 20kinds of sandwiches on top of a few noodle soups and everything Vietnamese. Service sucks as it's really a shouting match cause there is no formal line. Sandwiches start at $2.50 up to $5 if you want a fried egg added in.
You can pretty much find another place to go for sandwiches in chinatown, it's not hard.

>The Golden Star Pub
Just a tiny unknown pub in the city but my absolute favourite place. Their chef cooks game meat, always turns out to be the nicest thing you've ever eaten, and the menu changes every week. And pretty cheap too. Incredible place, I've had Venison steaks, Rabbit braised in bacon, Pigeon, Partridge and the most amazing lasagne you'll ever eat.

1. Beast - set course menu that changes. Proudly serves foie gras. Probably one of the best meals I ever had.
2. Killer Burger - peanut butter pickle bacon burger. Godly
3. Dar Essalam: Wisonville. Moroccan food. Family owned and operated, fantastic people and food
4. Decarli: Beaverton. Polenta fries with gorgonzola butter, salt caramel cheesecake.
5. Andina: Peruvian. Been a while since I've eaten there, but it was great.

Portland has a LOT of good places, it's hard to choose. Food carts are pretty famous as well, but I don't usually carry cash so I haven't frequented many.

Republic Ramen is pretty good, but their cashiers tend to make a lot of "mistakes" in their favor, so watch closely.

Chuckbox has some of the best burgers in town, if you don't mind waiting in a really long line. Chompies is god mode New York Jewish food. Other than that, most of Tempe is pretty bad thanks to Mill Ave and the mall being targets for national chains.

Oh, and if you like coffee, Coffee Cartel Labs. Some of the best in the valley, right up there with Macy's of Flagstaff and Bergie's out in Gilbert.

San Dimas fag here. Fuck you, Glendora.

Nah, nah, just kidding. I also can vouch for Donut Man. My family actually knows the owner, Jim, though it doesn't get us discounts or anything. There is a lot of history surrounding that place. The urban legend is that Elvis sent out his personal assistant to pick up jelly donuts from Donut Man.

I'll have to try Flappy Jack's. I love breakfast food, and I pass it all the time but I've never gone in.

Other restaurants in the area I'd recommend are >Waffa's Kitchen (Glendora)
Hole in the wall hidden gem. Excellent Lebanese food for a reasonable price. Also, she makes baklava and pickled beets that are excellent.

>L'etoile Chocolatier (Glendora)
Another Lebanese owner. She makes wonderful chocolates in the Belgian style. Also, her packaging is very fancy, making it a nice place to shop for gifts.

>Legends Classic Diner (Glendora)
50s style restaurant with great burgers. Good portions, and there is a salad bar where you can pick up peppers and stuff. It was actually built on property that my grand mother used to own!

>Little Tokyo (San Dimas)
The owners recently changed hands, and it isn't as good as before, despite the fact that they really spruced the place up. Still, the teriyaki meats and sushi keep me coming back, even though the price has risen modestly.

Also, if anyone is in the area and can recommend a good Mexican restaurant, I'd appreciate it. For Mexican food, I go to Senor Baja in Claremont, Casa del Rey, or Zendejas. They're really good, but I just know that there is a run down joint out there that has my name on it.

I'll admit firsthand, I actually don't eat out much in my own city, and considerably less still at "nice" restaurants, but this has potential to be an excellent and informative thread for people interested in traveling.

Aiyara Thai Cuisine - Thai food obviously. Removed considerably from the city center, but excellent. Very quiet, as not many people know about it, and it's in the middle of a strip mall. The interior is beautiful but it looks like a hole on the outside.
Broadway Bar and Grill - chain of divey sports bars that do absolutely god tier breakfasts. Not much going for it otherwise, so don't go for dinner.
Taj Mahal - indian food.
The Prescott - considerably divier sports bar than Broadways, with a killer meatball sandwich. Get the extra cheese and gravy, you pussy. If there's a (hockey) game on, it can be a great place to grab a few beers, and it gets pretty loud (which is good, if you're watching a game).
La Porto a Casa - Italian, and hard to get into without a reservation. Also fairly far from the city center, but an amazing tiny little restaurant

I live in Manhattan. I have a job that pays me enough to live in Manhattan. I can certainly go out and drop some change on dinner here and there. I've been to EMP, Daniel and Le Bern, but not Per Se or JG. Also, Masa is likely the most expensive in the city and its not on this list. I went to The Modern for my birthday last week and dropped about 500 bucks on dinner and wine with my wife. From time to time, this is something one should do if it is possible.

Yeah, Donut Man's pretty fucking popular. But for good reason.

Waffa's Kitchen huh? I'll have to try that sometime.

Legends is also a great place that I almost threw on my list. I love their big bird sandwich.. or whatever it's called.

Casa del Rey's alright. I feel like you can get more for your money at some other places though. As for other Mexican restaurants, I can recommend two in the area.

>El Merendero
They have really good simple burritos. I can't personally recommend anything else there because I haven't tried much else, but I hear their chili relleno is pretty good.

>Las Palmas
It's in San Dimas, right off Arrow by the 57 offramp. It's more of a sit-down restaurant than El Merendero's and most of the stuff I've tried there is pretty decent.

There's also Ray's Tepeyac in Covina that I hear is really good but I haven't tried it myself.

Their tamales are decent, too.

Aladdin's is the best Mediterranean in town, unless you're buying from the market and making your own. I generally add 50x more lemon to everything, though. But that baklava ... omnomnom.

Sushimoto has some of the best sour plum rolls I've ever had.

You can get better food if you just drive a little bit to chandler, Scottsdale, or downtown but there's a few decent places.
Haji baba - best falafels, baklava is ok, super cheap
Gus's - Disgustingly unhealthy cal zones that are the best I've had
Arai pastry - one of the best bakeries around the Phoenix area and they supply a lot of restaurants so you may have tasted their stuff before
teds - hotdogs were decent considering I generally dislike them but their burgers remind me of five guys but cheaper so its a good alternative for burgers that taste homemade without the hassle
Lucille's - wonderful smoked meat and chicken but their sauce is ok and everything else is just average. The meats are the real winners there.

The Premises Cafe - awesome breakfasts and decent Turkish food in the evening. Cool vibe as it is connected to a recording studio and has autographed photos of all the artists who have recorded there.

Lahore Kebab House, Commercial Road - Despite the name it is a great restaurant and serves the best Indian food available. Cheap as chips though expect to be the only white person there.

Wahaca - A Mexican chain restaurant similar in style to Wagamama but with much better quality. Serves street food which is quick, fresh and delicious. Completely different to the Tex Mex restaurants usually found in London and various cities in America.

Song Que, Kingsland Road - the best of a very large selection of Vietnamese restaurants along this stretch of road. The Pho is to die for.

Savoir Faire - a small French restaurant near the British Museum. Prices are good and the food is of great quality. The mussels in garlic are a personal favourite.

Yes, you're right, there are decent places to eat in the GTA. But I was merely commenting on my disgust with how every street corner has 2 timmy's.

Both of you suggest ethnic foods. And that's the issue I have. It's great that some of the immigrants here can cook well. I've learned to enjoy Afghani food this fall. I just wish there were more quality Western food restaurants, like they have in Montreal.

Canada's too unrepresented here so here are some places around Vancouver.

If your a retro nut you could visit the Ovaltine cafe If you happen to find yourself in eastvan (protip: not a tourist spot.), and The Red burrito, on-lock (great wonton soup), slocan, the red wagon, and probably more.

In New Westminster there's the Big 6 resturant and down the road from that is Burger Burger.

In Surrey there is the Fresgo Inn, pick anything, it will be good and near the Safeway the near there is a nice little wanton soup place.

T&T markets also have a nice little hot food thing they do. To be honest most Chinese food is a safe bet.

1. O'Neill's (Barton street) - stupid big burgers, 2 of my friends work there, get deals, get extra patties, get extra fries, its dope. Also, the place isn't big enough to sit down, its basically a counter with a kitchen

2. Mustangs (Stoney Creek somewhere) - good wing deals, good milkshakes, they have one of those trivia things that everyone plays, but I know a lot of places that do that

3. Poco Loco (Ottawa street) - Spanish / Mexican food, GOAT burritoes, big servings, real authentic, the owners are always there and they are from Argentina or something, I dont know, but they are friendly as fuck and make you feel at home, and the food is bitchin. They also have a tiny ice cream parlour for the summer.

4. "Tony's" (somewhere around Parkdale) - the mystery place my mom has gotten me a gyro from like 3 times, I've never been. Best fucking gyro's I ever had, some of the best meat I've ever had period. Gigantic gyro, monstrous.

5. Montford's (at the centre mall, elsewhere) - I know this place is a chain, probably just Canadian, serves shawarma with rice and veggies and the nice foreign lady always gives me an extra pita because I used to go there like every 2 days for lunch and always asked for another one, fucking love shawarma.

3. Bowl of Pho - 7$ gets you a massive bowl of pho, best priced pho I've ever seen
4. French Pantry - The French Dip literally brought a tear to my eye. But line to get in is merciless and you have to sit with other people at big tables. Food arguably makes up for atmosphere though
5. Masala- lunch Indian buffet $7.99. Usually 2 soups, salad, 2 - 3 rices, goat, fish, chicken, and veggie dishes, naan

honorable mention: 1. Bento - japanese fast food

4. Sakura - the Paul Roll. Do it.

2. Mt. Fuji- pretty awesome despite being out of date, they've got an oriental food store in their basement which is cool
3. The Capital Bar&Grill- very reasonably priced for being in the swankiest hotel in the state, delicious and great atmosphere
4. Whole Hog Cafe- it's a (mostly) local chain IDGAF, kinda pricey though, they've won pretty much every award possible in competitions though
5. The Flying Fish- also kind of a chain, but I like it

Honestly, the food scene here is pretty weak. LOT'S of good barbeque and meat & 3s, but pretty much anything 'fine dining' or presenting itself as 'modern' is goofy, overpriced bullshit following whatever was trendy in NYC two years ago. Ex: Packet House, Big Orange, Trio's, Brave New Restaurant, Acadia, any hip new food truck.

Yeah, things are noticeably better than a couple years ago though.
