poor fag here, whats /ck/'s thoughts on spam?

It's cheap, high and calories, fat, and protein, as well as sodium. But can it be tasty?

>> No.3962714

I buy Roast Beef Hash instead. Meat and potatoes together. Brown it on the stovetop and it's great.

Spam is probably good browned too. Tried it without stovetop preparation and got tired of it after the first few times.

Hawayans love them shits. They even make sushi with it.

>> No.3962726

Spam Musubi are pretty much the only way I'll eat spam.

>> No.3962733

I fry it and eat it on a sandwich. The shit's pretty good, even if it's not very healthy. I usually can't eat a whole lot of it before getting sick of it but I'm still not sure why everyone hates it so much.

>> No.3962800

It's decent when pan fried, I just wish it weren't so damned salty.

>> No.3962811

>cheap

I don't understand why people think this.
Spam is not cheap at all.
It's $3+ per can.
I can get 4 blocks of tofu for $1.50 and it tastes a hell of a lot better than Spam.

>> No.3962816

>>3962811
>It's $3+ per can.
It's $2.50 per can, and less if you get it on sale or in bulk.

We never use the entire can. Usually we can split it into 3 to 4 meals -- so about 50cents to 65cents worth of spam per meal. So it's pretty cheap.

I've never seen tofu for those prices. It's usually 99 cents per block. On sale more like 79 cents.

>> No.3962917

If you slice it really really thin and cook it on the stove it's possible to get it down. It'll never be tasty though.

I personally love Spam. Cut it into small cubes and eat it with fried rice. Oh yeah.

Are you talking about the blocks of tofu that are floating in the brackish water at Asian groceries? Is that really safe to eat?

Asian grocery store.

A package of 4 burger-sized blocks for $1.50
If you need to add flavor, but 5 spice for .99 at the same store.
All for less than one can of Spam.

I like to slice it and fry it with brown sugar. Put that on Ritz crackers (or whatever you prefer). Pretty tasty. Totally unhealthy.

I can get three oranges for 1.50 why buy steaks for five bucks herp derp.

I beg to differ, spam is definitely high in fat and sodium. However it is also high in calories and protein, and it takes years for it to spoil, making it an excellent survival/poorfag food.

Healthy is a subjective term. It does lack essential vitamins and if spam is all you eat then yeah, it's unhealthy for sure.

My point wasn't about the shelf life, it was about the fact that is was a dense, high calorie food, and in moderation it is perfectly healthy.

I don't think you know what "subjective" means.

Subjective means that it depends on someone's viewpoint. Not that it depends on the situation or context. Healthiness of a diet requires context, but it's definitely not subjective.

Spam is actually quite popular in asian countries and is a fast and convenient way to get heady, salty flavors into food. Here in the US that's like spitting in a river, but in Japan that's actually rather rare and special.

I hear they do spam sushi. D:
