Generally I would go for a nice bourbon or an aged rum, though. Both neat, the bourbon at room temperature and the rum chilled.

Generally, I like peaty whiskies, like Laphroaig or Ardbeg. I'm also a big fan of Talisker.

However, Highland Park is great stuff when I'm not in the mood for peat. Now I just need a good sherried whisky.

I usually try to match a beer to my dinner. The late evening sometimes involves a small tumbler (about 5 oz capacity) a third full of whatever liquor I have on-hand. Sometimes I fill it a couple of times, but often that's all I want before I crawl into the linens.

I don't know where the hell it is getting advertised, but this kracken rum is neckbeard central. I've lost count of the numbers of parties I've attended where there has been a spotty scrotum in a fedora clutching a bottle of the stuff. Said spotty scrotum always turns out to be a massive sperglord.

Drinking is about what you like. Fuck all this mental pollution regarding 'classy' or 'manly' or anything like that. Food is usually the foundation of which drink selection is based upon, so think about that one.

That way, you kind of get to drink how you are supposed to be drinking, instead of how the industry promoting drinking wants you to be drinking. IE much more than we ever have before.

college student here, so i don't have the super pricey things, but here's what i enjoy
-jameson and ginger
-irish coffee (made with 4 parts coffee, 2 parts jameson, 2 parts sugar, 1 part bailey's, and whipped cream)
-single malt scotch on the rocks (my current bottle is the glenlivet 12 year, a nice entry level single malt)
- and now, the yoko kanno (drunken moogle bullshit, yes, but rather tasty. 1.5 oz rye whiskey, 1 oz sake, .5 oz cointreau, splash of bitters)
and if i can enjoy a cigar at the same time, it's a good night.

I tried a lot of their stuff when I was in Amsterdam, have you tried their sour beer? I didn't even know you could do that until I tried it.

To answer the OP Pappy Van Winkle 15yr Bourbon, I have not had the good fortune yet to try the 20 yr, occasionally I'll mix in a 1\3 of root beer or sarsaparilla.

I put in the smallest amount, I'd recommend doing a taste test sometime. Just get some good sarsaparilla and put in a small amount and then try them both, you'll still get the wonderful layers of taste but with a touch of the edge taken off.

That being said, more days than not the edge is most welcome.
