When it comes to meals, I enjoy having a side of rice to go with veggies and meats. My typical recipe is usally a half-a-up with teaspoon of butter and soysauce. However, I've been concerned about the butter, wondering if it was an unhealthy choice to add to my rice despite that I enjoy the particular flavor it adds that I think goes well other meals. So /ck/, is there something else should be using that could preoduce a simliar result? Also, are there any other meals I could make with rice?

I'm sure the salt levels will get you.

It doesn't come out particularly salty though, at least not so salty that I don't enjoy it

Try adding a tablespoon or so of olive oil instead if you're particularly worried. I can't see whereas a teaspoon of butter would be particularly harmful, but its your discretion, not mine. It may not be exactly the same, but I have used olive oil in rice before, and it will give it a nice, rich flavor without all the fat of butter. A teaspoon of soy sauce has about 306mg of sodium, or about 12% of your daily recommended intake (provided you're following an average 2,000c./day diet). So it isn't bad for one meal, or hell, all three meals of the day if you ask me. I wouldn't worry too much about the sodium of that's all the more you're putting into the rice.

I recommend this http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/brown-rice-salad-recipe/index.html

I've got some sitting in my fridge right now, it's quite delicious.

Do you guys have a rice cooker?

Seriously, if you like eating a lot of rice, buy yourself a rice cooker. I got one like 3 years ago for $20 and it works perfectly fine. I cook rice 2-4 times a week and it comes out perfectly the way I like it. Just rice and water if I just want plain rice.

Anon, please. Butter is one of the best things you can put on rice.

Also, buy some Johnny's Dock Salad elegance seasoning and substitute a little sprinkle of it for the soy sauce. You will never go back.

Olive oil is 100% oil, as in 100% fat. Butter is only 82% fat. "Without all the fat of butter" indeed, faggot!

And fat isn't bad for you.

Oh boy, an atkins conspiracy theorist. Yes, every major medical authority is wrong and we should all eat plenty of red meat and fat, carbohydrate is the evil.

Kill yourself.

Butter is not bad for you. Margarine is however. If you're using that stuff then quit.

People still believe in the lipid hypothesis?

OP eat all the fucking fat you want with carbs. It helps you metabolize carbs better and makes you less likely to store them. Also, exercise and eat a ton of raw veggies.

Depends on the type of margarine. Stick margarine=bad, typically partially hydrogenated oil with a few exceptions like Earth Balance. Almost every brand of tub margarine uses no partially hydrogenated oil.
