oh hi /ck/.

just curious, what is your preferred sandwich chain? i'm not talking about the best local neighborhood spot with $10 sandwiches that only 50 rich hipsters are aware of. i'm talking about sandwich shops that are widely available. you know, jimmy john's, potbelly, firehouse, quiznos, scholtzkies, subway, etc etc etc.

let us discuss our favorite sandwich chains and claim why our favorite is the best.

the ones you mentioned are fucking disgusting.

I guess for nearby chain stuff I'd have to go with the grilled cheese at beecher's, and maybe no 7 sub.

where do you live? i haven't heard of either of those. are you sure you aren't a privileged hipster gloating over the "superior" and unaffordable sandwiches that only people in your town know about? can't we just play by the rules and talk about tasty and inexpensive sandwiches that are easy for everyone to relate to?

I greatly enjoy Penn Station.

Great Cheesesteaks, Great Italian Subs, Great Reubens, Pretty much every thing they make is wonderful.

Pot Belly is a distant second.

Now if only a national sandwich chain would start slicing their own pastrami...I don't care if it's hebrew national...anything is better than presliced. This ideal shop would also make their own italian beef with hot giardinara and jus

i forgot about which wich, i love them. the food is a bit above mid tier but i really just love the whole concept of building your own combination of ingredients from scratch with no premade menu influence.

i'm gonna have to give the nod to potbelly and scholtskies. i like potbelly best overall but i also really dig scholtskies. sometimes nothing but a dark pumpernickel will satisfy, and their pizzas are actually quite delicious considering where they are from.

beecher's is both an east coast and a west coast thing. no 7 sub is in both brooklyn and manhattan.

I don't know how you define a "privileged hipster", I'm a wage slave who happens to like food. I suppose having been forced to subsist on chain sandwich shops to the point of wanting to vomit at one point in my life makes me a terrible person.

no, i'm just saying that insisting on name dropping local places won't really bring much to the conversation considering 95% of the people here have never heard of it and will never get to try it. i mean, i think the best sandwich chain is Brown Bag Deli, but since they are only in my city then i'm not going to bother discussing it for the sake of not isolating everyone here.

i'd just like to discuss sandwiches that most people have had and if they haven't then they will probably have access to them.

ok ok, we can discuss overall best sandwiches. i'm not gonna go autist over a sanwich, let us just agree that they are delicious and share our favorites. and to tell you the truth, i'm honestly just upset that i dont live in a city that has awesome sandwich places on every block. i mean brown bag is fucking tits, 9.5/10 for sure, but i guess i'd like some variety. i guess we can't have everything though. even if i had a sandwich shop on every corner i'd lose my shit if i didn't have dozens of tex mex, authentic mex, and bbq places to chose from in a ten minute radius.

“Hipster” is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else’s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.

It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.

Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you’ve probably sensed the pattern on your own).

You can’t define what “that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle” actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That’s because you don’t use “hipster” to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.

The twist, of course, is that if it weren’t for your own insecurities, nothing that a “hipster” could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - “Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I’m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!” - so you project those feelings.

Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, “ironic” Them.
