Hi /ck/. How do I prepare the bacon in this dish? When should I chop it? Microwave, oven, stovetop? This is similar to what I cook everyday but I am going to try bacon now so please help.

>> No.3755019

You want to use the bacon to flavor the beans. SO, you cook the bacon in the pot you're going to cook your beans in, then remove and saute the onion in the bacon grease. Then add your soaked beans and cooking liquid and cook as normal. Crumble the bacon and add to the final dish.

Chop up bacon, bells and onion.
Put in a pot.
Set pot to high heat.
When fragrant, lower heat to medium/medium-low.
Cook until onion /just/ begins to blonde, then add water to cover.
Reduce water back out and add more.
Repeat this step another 2-3 times.
Add beans.
Add water to cover. Bring to the boil, then lower heat to a simmer.
Set a kettle of water to the boil (will explain why later).
If the water has reduce out from the beans and they're still not cooked, add boiling water from the kettle and cook down again; repeat as necessary.
Salt to taste.
And I could make that exact meal for $5,50, or so, including the awful-ass skim milk. $9,26? Da fuck?
