As someone that has been living in Chicago for about a year now its extremely weird since deep dish is truly the only good Chicago style. Thin crust is terrible and too sweet, Italian Beefs are just shitty wet cheesesteaks, and chicago dogs are legit bad unless you get them at only a couple places where they're elevated to "meh"

Deep dish however is a unique take on pizza and is great in a city thats behind the coast in food culture.

I live in Wisconsin and it isn't hard to get my hands on a good Chicago style pizza.

They're fantastic, for sure. I think I prefer them to regular pizza most of the time... but, they're not the same, y'know? They're not, like, a walking pizza. Chicago style is a sit down, eat with a knife and fork, this-is-what's-for-dinner pizza. Thinner crust, and New York style, you can just kind of grab a slice and keep going. Both have their place.

Chicago wins taste and quality, but taste and quality are not the only ways to measure food.

Pizza elitism is a huge thing in the last few years, originating from New York after some food critic said that New York Pizza was the best Pizza ever

Kid gets a shiny new trophy, so he goes around going "That's a nice shit bread you have there everyone else, but officially I'm the best ever"

Chicago goes "Our thing is pretty good as well"

New York flips out, and a rivalry has been going ever since where New York will denounce literally everything about Chicago pizza ever chance it gets, saying its shit pizza, saying its not really pizza, saying its a bread bowl, saying its garbage. Its heated up over the years to the point that the memes have caught on and people think we must denounce Chicago pizza whenever its posted.

Eventually Italy got thrown into the mix when New York got too annoying and said "Hey, you're not really REAL pizza either. Only Italy Pizza is actual real Pizza".

New York flipped out again got more assblasted.

Thought I'd dislike it, it was fucking amazing.
I was born in new york, but now I'm a big fat traitor. NYC pizza is trash compared to a good 'go 'za.

That's part of the heart of it. Chicago Pizza isn't trying to be the only accurate and correct way to make pizza, its a variation on the style.

New York is claiming that its the only correct way to be pizza any time its brought up. Which is why its more annoying each time, New York is trying to sell itself as the only real answer.

Chicago only tries to sell itself as "This is good" not "This is the only way".

So what is Chicago style deep dish actually like? Is it like a pie, filled with cheese(s) and sausage? It sounds bloody delicious, might have to make some myself at some point cause yurop.

Why isn't there a live and let live attitude with pizza? Every time I hear about Hawaiian and Chicago Deep Dish, people get into these weird internet slap fights.

Pigs don't face moral or intellectual problems not to mention labor instead their day consists of stuffing their face and rolling in the mud.
Plato even made the same comparison where life without any responsibility and hardship would be more akin to one of a pig, than a human.

I think its one of those things that you need to find the right place to make it for you. Like with curry I had to go to a few different places before I could finally get a decent one. But you understand on the inside that there's something to this, and then when it works it works.

First rule is that pizza hut ain't a good standard. Second rule see if you can find a local place that does it, or does anything similar if you can't get authentic. If all else fails then make it yourself with a guide.

Oddly it is a bit like a pie. The crust is slightly different from normal, the cheese is on the bottom, and sauce is up top. The middle is mostly cheese.

It's not quite a pie. The crust is generally very buttery and flaky. There's more tomato sauce, making it a bit sweeter, and the cheese isn't quite as cooked

Lived in chicago my whole life and still think deep dish is a little much for me. Too much cheese and shit. We actually have some really good thin crust places if you can find the ones that aren't too sweet. Look into Rosatti's if your ever in the area.

Effectively. Let me put it to you this way: the sauce goes on top to keep the copious fillings from burning while the thing bakes.

Moved to Arizona two years ago. I'll be in Chicago this weekend, really looking forward to some deep dish.
