What is the ratio of ice cream to coffee? I've used a scoop of ice cream in my coffee the same way I'd use milk or cream.

I did. I told everyone about it in the coffee general. I'm glad the humble affogato has seen a rise in popularity. Please enjoy your frozen delight! Mwua!

Affogato is traditionally made with fresh (hot) espresso and plain (not vanilla) icecream/gelato. If you do not have access to espresso, a strong moka brew or aeropress will do the job. Try to use the highest quality icecream you can afford, vanilla is acceptable. Start with equal parts by weight ice cream and espresso. Pour the hot coffee over the ice cream and enjoy immediately. Adjust ratios to your preference after you have your first 1:1 affogato.

>Try to use the highest quality icecream you can afford
Seriously, just make your own.
>1 pint heavy whipping cream
>1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
>cheap plastic container suitable for a half gallon of ice cream
>COST= less than $6 and you can mix in ANYTHING you want
>STEP1:Beat cream in a chilled glass or metal bowl with an electric mixer until soft peaks form; add condensed milk and beat until thick and well combined.
>STEP 2:Transfer mixture to a shallow container and cover with plastic wrap; freeze until solid, about 6 hours.
If mix in's, I usually flip the container at least every 30 minutes for the first 1½hours for good dispersion.
Shit's amazing. you really only need 6-8 spoonfuls before you are satisfied. I can easily kill a 1.5 quart, pre-made carton in 2 sittings, maybe 1,(rarely) but this is different--richer, more real.
If it weren't for the fact that I mixed a semi-failed Blueberry cobbler into the last batch, I would have done this in my coffee this morning.
*ONLY DRAWBACK: I like my coffee HOT.

Mix in some smooshed bananas that are starting to get overripe. Maybe a little vanilla essence. Don't ever let them tell you loving bananaffagato is unnatural.

I... Idunno...I...I think...uh...WEW! Bananas huh?...uhhhhh...
Well that batch I showed had both rum and vanilla extract too.
I don't like my eye scream to glow.
NGL...that's a little ZESTY4Me
I'd eat it as just ice cream though.
Prolly mix in some toasted walnuts too. maybe a lil homemade caramel with coarse sea salt.

I used to work at a creperie that was owned by a former methhead in a small backwoods town. We served crepes, gelato, sandwiches, espressos, ypu name it. My boss was skinny as a rail, almost never saw her eat but she would smash at least 4 affogati a day, shit was crazy

Well, which is it? Did you almost never see her eat, or did you see her eat 4 times a day. I wouldn't call witnessing an act four times everyday to "almost never".
