Did gros michel bananas really taste like the banana candy flavoring we use today? I hate the way cavendish bananas taste but that artificial banana flavor is so good. I'd definitely eat bananas all the time if they really tasted like that. We must bring back the gros michel.

if your gros michel breaks, an OP joker can show up in the shop

okay well why don't you just gmo some blight resistance like you do with corn???

This is exactly why I'm rooting for Iran. Please, based muslims, reinstate the gros michel.

The even more interesting question:
The cavendish has been the de facto banana for decades now, so how come that banana candy STILL tastes like the gros michel? Why have they STILL not developed an aroma that actually tastes like TODAY's banana?

Because everybody likes the gros michel better than the cavendish. Artificial gros michel aroma and flavor are just sad reminders of a better time.

Because the gros michel is simply superior and the ONLY reason the cavendish is sold everywhere is because the gros michel was practically wiped out completely by blight and cavendishes were the next best option for bananas. We still have the ability to replicate the flavor though so we we do.

Me too, I've heard they taste like vanilla ice cream. I'm kinda doubtful that it really does taste like that but I definitely want to find out for myself.

This is what I figured would be the experience. Ice cream texture but not really vanilla flavor.

>Did gros michel bananas really taste like the banana candy flavoring we use today?
there are some vidoes on youtube where people try them and some people report they taste like "fake banana" others say maybe just a little.

>>20400570
>so how come that banana candy STILL tastes like the gros michel?
because cavendish doesn't taste good, and despite fake banana flavor not tasting like cavendish people would get mad if you change the flavor of their favorite food.

Gros Michel bananas are still grown on a small scale today, OP. You can order them from a number of websites if you really want to see how they taste.

>Flavor Profile: This banana may be compared to a Cavendish in flavor
Thanks for proving how Reddit this gros Michel thing is.
I can't think of a single artificial candy flavour which actually tastes like the real fruit so banana being accurate but only to the type nobody's tasted sounds like bullshit.
The biggest difference in banana flavour comes from how ripe they are and most people eat them underripe when they taste of nothing.

Nah I’ve had bananas grown locally in different places and they taste different than grocery store bananas. There’s plenty of different flavor profiles in banana varieties, they just aren’t commercially viable.

All I know is that they taste like the glory days of America. The United Fruit Company did nothing wrong, listen to the Myth of the 20th Century "Banana Imperialism" episode and bask in the sordid history of the banana.

they just can't be grown on large scale because the soil at all the plantations is infected with blight
