I think the legend goes that some village had a terrible stormy winter where nobody was catching any fish, then some guy went out in the storm and came back with a huge catch and they made this pie to celebrate
It's just a festival food with a fancy story attached only eaten in one small part of england

They aren't.
It's a traditional thing in part of a small rural English county. (Cornwall)

Talking of Cornwall, you must try some real pasties, they're kind of a hand-held pie and every bakery in Cornwall has a twist on it.

btw. I am not from Cornwall, I dislike the Cornish actually.

Don't try to argue with Americans I had one unironically tell me we don't drink milk then accuse me of being from a fly over state. They think a hyper focused lens in the media = reality, just nod at them and let them clap to their flag. Telling them otherwise confuses and angers the American.

i find it interesting how you combine words to form new proper nouns, e.g. Electronikdanceclub

>> No.20214301

>>20214247
it's basically because we put what matters into the noun. English has the habit of littering everything with verbs and adjectives: "[adjective] thing that [verb]s X" while german would tend to contract all of that into a noun like "[adjective]X[verb]er".

I have never eaten or seen anyone eating a fish head pie in the UK or eels. But then again I live in London so it may be different in the regions. I think they're just posting that to get attention. If anything it's probably cottage/shepherds pie, roasts potatoes/chips, fried chicken, the various currys, pizza that get eaten most frequently. Sorry to disappoint.

It's quite normal in other cultures to serve the fish whole. Think of it as a mark of provenance and you can see how fresh the head is from the eyes and the gills. (I remove the gills and non-edibles before cooking obviously).

I don't have a problem with eating fish heads. I eat them every week when I have trout and mackerel. Just chew on them and spit out the bones. Mackerel heads actually have a lot of delicious oil inside and the offal minus the poop chute is good too.
