How much boiling water are we talking? A dozen liters or a few gallons won't hurt anything. For any normal residential or commercial kitchen purposes you'll be alright.

However, if you have pvc or abs drains they do start to melt at pretty low temps. So if you're doing something industrial like pouring hundreds or thousands of gallons of boiling water through your drains all day then yeah they'll start to warp.>>20179922

This is how French restaurants create those gourmet dishes that cost so much, it's a well guarded secret.

Of course this doesn't work in a sink with JUST your ordinary wastewater, don't be stupid now. They have special sinks for that. I forgot what needs to be put down the sink first that allows it to combine with the hot water to create the needed aromatic. Does anyone else remember?

The technique is similar to smoking meats, though. Same concept in terms of what is happening with the particles created.

If you're using enough water for your pasta that it needs to be drained then you're using too much water. The right ratio is absorbed into the pasta and the remnant evaporates leaving basically nothing behind to drain.

I've had a plumber directly tell me when you pour out pasta water you should run the tap on cold to prevent damage/warping for plastic pipes.
According to him as well, commercial kitchens they don't trust retards to not pour too much boiling water down the drain or even hot oil, so they run like 20ft of cast iron piping or something to that effect to help cool it down before it hits the plastic piping.
That said, I'm in a 31 year old house where we never did the cold water thing and the sink has never had a problem so it probably isn't that big of a deal as long as you're not dumping like 20 gallons of boiling water.

Okay (plumber here). It depends on your pipes. If they're made out of iron, copper or galvanized steel then you're good, but if it's PVC then absolutely DO NOT pour boiling water down the sink. The reason for this is because PVC piping is held together with slip nuts and rubber washers which can warp and cause a leak, but the real problem is when the joints are glued together....and the primer and plastic cement do a very good job at bonding two plastic pieces together, but it's STILL NOT a complete piece, and with time they could come apart with all the warping, especially if you live in a very cold climate. In fact if you live in a place that's so cold that water freezes in your home (this is quite common for people that travel a lot or truckers that are gone for a long time and let their homes turn into ice boxes) then a little tip I learned is to pour a little antifreeze down the drain so the swivel P-Trap (ring catcher) won't freeze, and also turn your water off from the street and flush your toilets and run all your water sources until the pipes are empty. I've seen toilets explode because the water freezes inside and expands.

What I would do if I were you is to just let the water cool down to room temperature or pour it outside. You could also pour cold water into the bowl so it isn't boiling. It can be hot but not boiling levels. Another problem too is that boiling water will loosen the grease on your pipes and eventually collect at the bottom, possibly resulting in a clog—nothing a drain snake can't fix...but then now you've got to get a drain snake. If you treat your plumbing with love it can last you a very long time, but if you don't then it can get quite expensive, and plumbing is one of those things that you NEED. So when in doubt, don't do it.
