> The etsy shop I wanted to buy pic related baking steel from for my pizzas has stopped taking new orders just a few days before you were ready to order.
why live

Is anything else similar to pic-related for less than $150?

It's ~3/8" thick A36 steel, if I had the tools and space i'd just buy a sheet myself and remove the scale and season it, but I live in an apartment currently and just want a finished product.

Man that’s simple as shit to make.

>> No.20179643

just give in and buy the lodge i mentioned, friend
it's as thick and sure it maybe isn't as big as you'd like but you seem to be struggling to find anything else unfortunately

>it's as thick
It isn't.

It's less than 5mm thick, the one in the pic is almost 10mm thick.

The one I was looking at was like 24lbs of steel.

Why don't you try calling some machine shops around your area, I bet someone would make you one locally, if you pay for mats and labor. Looks like a 30 minute job.

Try getting a Halo Pizza oven. The controls are on the front and the stone rotates, making it ideal for use on a balcony or other small space.

it can't be used indoors unless you're VERY well-ventilated, so not really useable in an apartment unless you've got a balcony or patio.

It's an outdoor oven; but even a small outdoor space works.

maybe you're right, i apologize.
there's no clear thickness specification listed and people seem to be all over the place on their own measurement. but weight does seem to be half or less so that says enough

Get a $50, 18" charcoal grill from a box store and a stone for like, $40 from Walmart. Add a $20 chimney starter and a $15 bag of charcoal. Throw in a $25 peel and there's your $150, except you can cook way more than just pizza on it. Get it ripping hot (it'll hit 750° easy, and do hotter if you like), start your pizza on it and let the crust get good and charred, then finish in a 400° oven. Wala.

Walmart sells a cast iron one, I think it's Lodge.
It was cheap and works better than any stone or steal I have used in the past.

Just get some mild steel plate, remove the millscale with muriatic acid, or elblow grease, season it and there you go.
Most steel places will cut if for you, or have pre-cut pieces.
Then you can weld on handles. You can make them out of rebar or just find ones that are made out of steel.

You probably can use cast iron pan with similar effect, but your pizza would be limited to the size of the pan.

>> No.20180664

>>20179612
What's the dimensions on that? A 12 X 12 plate is running around $75, so $150 seems fair for a finished product.

this rectangle is 16x12in, 1/4" A36 steel, $100 with free shipping if you're in the US. Whip up a simple rectangle with handles in cad, have it laser cut, bend the handles to the correct angle yourself in a vise or something.

14x14 is the minimum and id prefer 16x16 or 16x20 or similar, and id like 0.375 (3/8") over 1/4".

>> No.20180985

Do you really think you need that extra 0.125"? I can't imagine the extra thermal mass would make any real difference with your pizza.
16x16 1/4" is $132 or $92/ea if you buy 2, 3/8" is $200 or $120/ea if you buy 2.
