I used to have a flat cheese grater. Always real careful with it. Nonetheless one time nicked my thumbnail on it and it grabbed and took out a big chunk of nail and flesh. Threw grater away because obviously too stupid to own one. Never sliced a finger since, not even with a knife which I use all the time for slicing and chopping.

Box graters are better, but one time I took all the skin off my knuckles with one. They make the cheese a weird shape now to """conserve plastic""" so every grating sesh is risky these days.
