this 18 is a really nice balance of sweet and savory. nose is slightly sweeter, palate is more savory. peat is nicely rounded from its age so its definitely not as austere as the notable component in something like 6 Isles. Peppery-ness is on par with Talisker, but everything about it is a cut above anything bottled by Diageo for the last decade. after shipping Ledaig 18 cost me $115, good drop for the price and this is based on the neck pour.

Been on a bit of an old fashioned kick lately. I'm not a sophisticated man, so Buffalo Trace is my #1 go to. I have been messing with my simple syrup and have decided that my favorite one is:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
flesh of 4-5 oranges
2 cinnamon sticks (removed after reduction)
Strain or blend and keep in bar fridge.

I don't know why but Loch Lomond group left my market at the end of 2020, although the odd LL18 and Glen Scotia Victoriana will pop up once every 12-18 months. The Glen Elgin is nice, but very subtle with the peat which seems more like it was sloshed around in a Caol Ila barrel for a couple months.

Black / double black / sherry black are all decent but price matters. If they undercut single malts feel free, if they don't then they don't perform too favourably.
Green is well liked. I think it's too mild and it does costs more than most single malts. Great age for the price, but I'd stick to the ingredients within (Cragganmore, Linkwood, Caol Ila, Talisker).
Blue is great but price is blown the fuck out. The same blender made Spencer Collings Founders Reserve 10, and it's cask strength and cheaper and better. And it's not even that good value when compared to some indie CS bottlings.

Everything is a price to performance trade off. Johnny Walker fails in my market to deliver there. Try everything yourself and evaluate compared to local conditions as always. Even the dogmatic anti shills are often complaining because a specific bottle costs double in their area.

I have all the basic alcohols because I'm an alcoholic from college and now that i have money I've bought some slightly nicer higher end stuff for all the basic alcohols, but still missing a lot of the basics I feel.

Just know that most American single malts aren't gonna be anything like Scotch, because Scotch uses old bourbon or sherry casks whereas most American single malts use new oak. Totally different thing - totally different flavors.
With most American single malts they'll be more flavorful than their same-aged Scotch counterparts because new oak has way more flavor to give. Of course, there's a drawback to this - it's very easy to overage something in new oak and end up with an astringent mess.
