It's all re-usable with resale value in case the restaurant fails and the feanchisee needs to have that shit liquidated. Where as when you see the old light brown, dark brown, and black trimmed decor you'd immediately know it went in a McDonald's.

Kinda like those old, abandoned pizza huts that are no longer pizza hut. You know it was a pizza hut.

You know, you bring up an interesting point, albeit completely ass-backwardsly. It WAS actually illegal to market to children for a long time, until rightoids reversed that legislation in the 80's under Reagan. It could be argued, then, that the marketeers all went on a spending spree trying to capture a whole new section of audience, not really having any data at the time of how good an ROI that would actually be. Now, several decades later, they must have figured out that it simply isn't worth it (not really a big surprise, since kids don't usually hold the purse strings in a normal American family). With all this in mind, it's not that McDonald's is "getting boring" now, it's that they are just returning to their boring roots after a temporary fling with being interesting.

I love how you can just make shit up like this that's easily disproven. The McDonaldland characters were created in the 60s. Grimace, Hamburglar, fucking Ronald himself.
The 80s were the peak of the kidvertising because of the economic boom caused by Reaganist economic reforms, yes, but it didn't start then. The push to abolish kid advertising happened in the late 80s and the first laws against it were in the Bush Sr administration; why do you think all the cartoons like Transformers and Care Bears that only existed to sell toys all disappeared overnight around 1990? Because that's when the Children's Television Act was passed into law. A more comprehensive revision came in 1997. Then you had propaganda bullshit like Supersize Me that made it untenable for fast food specifically to market towards kids. McDonalds has basically retired Ronald because of the bad press of Supersize Me and other reports on how "unhealthy" their food is for kids.
It's functionally illegal to advertise anything 'unhealthy' towards kids these days.

>> No.20001617

And for the record, fast food had record level profits in the 80s and 90s. They have NEVER matched those profit levels, when you adjust for inflation. Burger wars and cola wars were the pinnacle of junk food's prominence in American society.

That's a comic book character. You're arguing that TV regulations didn't exist, because McDonalds put out a comic strip. McDonalds didn't even get into the TV and film game until after 1988, which is after Reagan's administration reversed the FCC's position on child advertising.

Nope. Most commercial leases (at least in my area) have a dilapidations clause that require the building to be returned to its original state in any case.

Plus McDonalds makes most of its money from retaining a commercial property portfolio and renting it to franchisees who have little bargaining power. It's just the business trying to compete with competitors that serve more "luxe" offerings

fast food used to be a rare thing to get. a thing of indulgence. much like people dressed up in the early days of aircraft travel and now people dress like slobs with sheboons eating crab legs and hooting and hollering on the plane. fast food is now a regular way for people to get "food". as such the celebratory, fun environments have been removed.

Most of the blowback against beige seems to come from the growth of cubicles in offices, which started off in a variety of colors but eventually settled on dirty beige almost everywhere. People got sick of seeing it for 8+ hours each day, wall to wall, everywhere, which caused it to become synonymous with soulless design.
It's fun to look back at other time periods such as the 1980s and see stores like Banana Republic that were packed to the faux rafters with khaki and earth tones.

99% of Millennials are drowning in college debt, credit cards debt, iPhone debt, Frappuccino debt, tranq debt, etc. Most of them haven't been to McDonald's since 2020, when everything went downhill for them when all their boomer parents started dying all of a sudden, but instead of the expected $100,000+ inheritance, millennials found out that their parents participated in a reverse mortgage scam and not only left their descendants no money, but put them in further misery by making them pay for funeral expenses, etc. Millenials are fucked. Most of them are 40 now, and they own no property, no cars, nothing, they have no kids, and yet they can't afford essentials. Things are looking extremely grim for most of them.

>it was over for me before it begun
The 2000's ended 14 years ago, guys, no one will live in a wealthy world anymore except the children of a few oligarchs like Bezos, Musk, Soros and the like, and the middle class is pretty much dead. What's the point of feeding our children (if we ever have any) the same lies we were fed 20-30 years ago that the future will be bright, happy and prosperous if we know for a fact that it will never be true anymore?

Don't know why green died but it seems clear that white crowded out the rest. Sunbelt population also exploded during this time and white cars are much more efficient in hot southern summers.

once you pay for the food you're supposed to drive away. sit-down customers just make messes you have to pay somebody to clean.

The difference is not having a place to sit and eat reduces the number of employees and the cost of cleaning products. this is mcdonalds, not a bar where they get more drunk and order more drinks and food
