He got tired of being fat and feeling like shit all the time, and basically being a circus sideshow. Now he does hosting on things from Discovery Channel like Mysteries at the Museum, some dumb consulting on shows on Food Channel or Travel Channel about food, and even the voice on the Modern Marvels on History Channel.

He's not what I really like, but good on him. He at least knows how to do the role of a showhost and can read and deliver milquetoast written dialogue.

There were moments when I sensed something insincere with him. I guess it was bipolar inconsistencies in his behind the scenes professionalism, then. Most of the food challenges were stupid like "you have to eat more of the bread" kind of rules. He didn't understand it was what made other hosts the stars they were, that fervent sucking up, from Zimmerman to Fieri, they all did it. Bourdain didn't care as much, such as his constant disdain for Rachel Ray. My favorite Bourdain moment was when he would rather stick forks in his eyes and jump over a cliff than ever eat iguana again. The guy who almost did the same preachy social media booboo was Alton Brown, post-weight loss again, with his pro tips. His final response to all the questioning about his health was an episode explaining he didn't stop eating/liking food/had no cancer was so off the rails (didn't actually like food we now know), that I'm sure he lost a good deal of fan base in that singular moment.
