Mediterranean seafood in general is pretty unimaginative. The one big idea they all have is to throw a bunch of sea-meat into a pot and make a stew.

Subsequently France is more inland and would be prime real estate for grain fields yet Italy makes all the carbs (pizza, pasta, etc)

But French seafood tho...

overfished, that's why. Everyone eats sardines.
I watched a S. Korean buyer guy stand at the dock/packing plant in Yarmouth ME and buy 100% of the "catch of the day" from the fleets being packed for travel. All of it! Price is no object, just wanted it all. Maine lobster is good and all, but the asian side of the world has had no regulation and they overfished their own waters like a rat race for food, that's why.
In Grand Cayman, all the seafood is imported from Honduras, because they don't want to wreck their own pristine protected waters.

Anon how is someone from NYC supposed to replicate a seafood dish from Italy? The italians eat plenty of seafood but no one outside of the mediterranean is gonna be able to make it simply due to not having the ingredients. Did you suffer from an aneurism before making this thread?

I was there for 8 days a couple years back and half the meals I ate included seafood. Frutti di mare pizza was the best one.

Nobody cares about their seafood outside italy because frozen or tinned fish sucks in comparison to fresh.

Yup. I’m in the US around Italians, and there’s lots of yummy seafood. Maybe op doesn’t live around Italians.

It's not clear to me what you are trying to say
Italians eat a fuckton of seafood (in the parts of Italy near the sea of course)but recipes are most of the time just cooking it in some way or eating it raw

So it doesn't makes much sense replicate the seafood recipes outside because it's just a matter of having access to a sea. Indeed a lot of Italian seafood recipes are identical to every other country that have a seafood culture
The only pecular recipes are the one involving other typical food like pizza and pasta (eg: pasta with mussels, pizza ai frutti di mare)

Po valley is one of the most fertile regions in the world, Sicily was the breadbasket of the Roman Republic before Egypt.
