a lot of people were raised with the expectation to enjoy salty and sweet foods, and simultaneously were raised by people who don't understand how to cook well.

this is why literally tens or hundreds of millions of kids love sugary breakfast cereal and chinese food. nothing has ever shown them any better so they don't know better.

I was literally in my mid-to-late 20s when I appreciated things like brussie sprouts and brock and kale

both are good, imo butter is best for after steaming and olive oil is best to use for when you broil them.

i see a lot of people nowadays that treat food as just "gasoline for your body" as in they just eat it because they need it to live and don't really enjoy the food they are eating.
a friend's gf is like this, her parents only feed her plain rice with salt, plain chickpeas with salt and beef that has been cooking 15 minutes so it's basically a shoe. No wonder she weights 60kg.
For context i live in Spain, you're supposed to eat chickpeas with potato and chorizo, or rice with tomato and meat. Parents nowadays are so fucking lazy and their kids just turn out to be weak fags.
I think nowadays people are losing a lot of culture, but especially gastronomical culture, that's sad.

i used to dislike broccoli unless i had it at my grandparents house, this is because my parents were feeding my frozen, overboiled broccoli, grandparents fed me fresh broccoli, the notion that vegetables are gross was a psyop created during the great recession to normalize mushy frozen vegetables

I've read that half a century ago they used to be extra bitter, but that has been fixed now so they're basically funky little cabbages

youre talking about brussel sprouts, but yes thats right

>> No.19942531

i certainly didnt care about cabbages as a child but then I did keto for a while and found out vegatables cooked to proper consistency in fair amount of fat seasoned properly taste alright
and for some reason parents didnt cook them well, Idk why they feed kids shitty vegetables but it is what it is

My boyfriend likes the stalks but hates the florets. How is that possible?

>> No.19942795

Have you ever had frozen broccoli that's been boiled to heat it up? That's what most American's think of when they think of broccoli. It's vile.

I wish I liked broccoli, it's just so vegetal and bitter.
>But anon, you just have to blanch/roast/saute/drench in butter and salt until it doesn't taste like broccoli!
Doesn't that defeat the point?

this right here
>mother will only serve vegs boiled, completely unseasoned
>its like eating wet paper
>move out
>buy my own broccoli
>add the tiniest bit of salt and pepper and put it in the oven instead
>learn I actually love broccoli

>> No.19943029

I grew up with a mother who knew how to cook, so broccoli was usually either steamed, blanched, or roasted and tasted great. As a result, I love broccoli.
A lot of people didn't, so mushy, tasteless, over-boiled broccoli slop is a disturbingly common experience. It's not hard to imagine why they don't like it.

>> No.19943046

>>19939315
My favorite way to cook them. Cut the florets into about 1/4 inch pieces and let them dry a little. While you dream of Wang Lung, thinly slice a head of garlic. Yes, the whole thing. I use a pick non-stick pan, but get a big surface over high heat. Add a little grape seed oil and when it's shimmering, dump in the broccoli. Why you fry it, sprinkle the pan with water and add more oil if needed. When the broccoli is a little past halfway, tip the garlic in and add a touch more oil. When it's done, both the garlic and broccoli will be a little brown. Eat as is, or add butter and noodles off the heat and eat with sausage.

Taste preferences can be highly subjective, and individuals may dislike broccoli for various reasons. Some people find its flavor bitter or earthy, and the texture can be a factor as well. Additionally, personal experiences or cultural factors can influence food preferences. While some dislike broccoli, others enjoy its nutritional benefits and versatility in cooking. It ultimately comes down to individual taste and varied culinary preferences.
