Kerststol, it's a kind of very rich bread that apart from the normal ingredients also has sugar, milk, and butter, and is flavored with raisins, candied (citrus) fruit, nuts, rhum, and orange/lemon zest. It's rolled out and baked with a stick of marzipan in the middle. And as if that wasn't enough, after baking while still hot a ridiculous amount of melted butter is smeared on it and the whole thing is dusted with powdered sugar. Can't get more Christmasy than that. Pic is my own from two years ago, with homemade marzipan

NTA I've really been considering making one for this Christmas. The roast is covered in mustard, then the mushroom coating and then ham covering that? Anything else to know before making one?

and now I will explain to you why my hatred for the dutch is total and WILL ENDURE FOREVER.

These subhumans will DIE for the savagery they LET LOOSE upon the world.

I was in Rotterdam in 2019 and my business contact invited me for a pleasant evening at a restaurant after the working day.

Upon arrival we engaged in pleasantries and were seated. The waiter approached us and after dispensing water asked if we desired anything else to drink. I asked to view the wine list. My colleague touched my arm and interjected, "they don't have a wine list here just beer" and then had the audacity to say the waiter, "He'll have the beer".

THEY AUDACITY OF THE FUCKING DUTCHMEN TO ASSUME THAT I, A GUEST TO HIS NATION WOULD DRINK WHAT HE DEMANDED.

Even typing it now I'm angry.

I'll kill you all.

You could call it a cake. I
It's usually compared to bread because yeast is added to the dough. In that sense it's perhaps closer to brioche

Anon surely you wouldn't got to a winery in the côte du rhône and order a beer? That's just plain silly! You should have kissed the dutchman's feet for saving you from overpaying a bad glass of wine.

I always make poached pears for Christmas
>4 D'Anjou pears; peeled, halved, and cored
>1 bottle of Moscato or similar sweet white wine
>2 sticks of cinnamon
>1/4 inch slice of ginger
>1 star anise pod
>4 cloves
>4 green cardamom pods
>3 allspice berries
Lightly toast the spices and add the wine. Heat it just to a bare simmer, but don't let it reach a rolling boil. Keep it at a low simmer for at least 30 minutes to let the spices infuse into the wine. Add the pears and keep it at a bare simmer or even just under. The pears will soften in sufficiently hot liquid, it doesn't need to be boiling. Cook until easily pieced by a fork, 15-20 minutes usually though it can depend on how ripe the pears are. I usually serve them with vanilla bean whipped cream and raspberry sauce, and you can sip the hot mulled wine on the side.
