They have a huge amount of competition. I'm from Kentucky, and there's an intersection in my town that has a different fried chicken place on ALL FOUR corners, none of them are KFC. Fried chicken is cheap and it's kinda hard to mess it up, so restaurants are quick to embrace it-- good margins and minimal training.

Bojangles really took a nosedive recently. For most present locations outside of VA/NC and all new locations they ditched their non-spicy option, ditched the bone-in chicken, the tenders got small as fuck, but the prices went sky high. First, they had the $10 8pc bucket. Then, you could only get that price through their app. Then, it became $12. Now, there is no deal on chicken. 8pc cost about $18.

Here both KFC and Popeye's are associated with blacks, they're either customers, staff, or both, so service is terrible and violence onsite is always possible. In my area it seems like all the Popeye's are staffed by Indians, and it takes at least 20 minutes to get your food, which is absurd for a takeout place.
Five Guys is fine but insanely overpriced.

I don't know about the US, but here in the UK KFC is, in my opinion, so much better than Popeyes it's not even close. Popeyes has worse batter, worse spices and i think even worse fries. KFC has better quality, juicier chicken and more natural-tasting (still frozen of course) potatoes.

There was a Bojangles near me a couple years ago. The chicken was good at the beginning and they definitely had bone in, but service and accuracy took a big nosedive. Popeyes fried chicken is not better than KFC, and neither has great sides. What Popeyes is good at is all the ancillary chicken like their sandwich, nuggets, wings etc, and those types of items are going to bring back people purchasing one meal for themselves more often than good fried chicken can bring back people buying a bucket of it.

KFC in my country is absolute dogshit, there's no seasoning it's literally just grease and has weird smells like it may be undercooked. Turkish anon here. We both have KFC and Popeyes. I find Popeyes greatly superior than KFC and here is why.
Although KFC wings and drumstick are both great, every other chicken piece is as dry as sahara.
Meanwhile those popcorn chicken in the pic from Popeyes are the juiciest fried chicken I've ever eaten and it blows my mind everytime. I've tried multiple items from Popeyes and they are very consistent, whether its tendies, thighs, or wings etc. Crispy outside juicy inside with great spice levels that don't overpower chicken and they have amazing sauces. (in fact best ones from all the fastfood chains that I've tried)
