would it have been possible for the native south americans and central americans to hypothetically invent the hamburger before the europeans arrived? they had tomatoes, meat and the means to make bread. I'm sure they had some nice salad stuff too

Pretty sure the Mayas, Icas, or Olmecs invented burgers. They were inspired by their alien visitors. But also because the Olmecs were actually Africans (look it up!) who traveled between the continents hundreds of years before the europeans. So they may have brought the recipe to South America from Africa.

Only by the most liberal considerations for what a burger can be. You can’t really make bread out of just corn or potatoes. corn bread is very crumbly and if you made it into a tortilla than it wouldn’t be a bun anymore now would it? Cheese was very rare since they had no domesticated animals that could reliably make a lot of it. You can technically make it from lamas and alpaca milk but it’s not very economical. And wild animals like elk if you have the balls to try. They had tomatoes but not all the spices to make what we would in modern day consider ketchup. No mustard. They had greens they could put on but no lettuce. They had onions but only little wild ones. And they didn’t have cucumbers so no pickles. And of course the patty would have to be made out of wild game or one of the few domesticated animals they had.

Hamburgers were actually invented by West Africans enslaved in what is now the Mississippi River Delta region. They would bake discs of ground oats and eat them on kaiser rolls with a vinegar based sweet sauce not unlike what we now know as catsup. Fascinating stuff!
