I lived in an area with in n out, whataburger, and 5 guys. in n out fries are inedible, their burgers are mediocre and you get practically no meat. veggies were kind of fresh, I suppose. In Connecticut there's a chain called Capitol Lunch. Runzas are pretty good and definitely worth it for the unique factor alone

For me, my favorite regional fast food that I've ever had is Braum's. I lived in Wichita for a year, and it's truly one of the greatest fast food chains. It's honestly nothing spectacular, but they have higher quality options that McDonald's, BK, Wendy's for a better price.

Last year I was able to get their double quarter pounder meal with large fries and large coke for $9 total after tax. You just don't see that kind of value anymore.

Plus they have a great ice cream/shake selection as well as a mini grocery store on the inside.

Their best deal is probably the "bag of burgers" though. You can get like 5 cheeseburgers for 6 bucks before taxes. It's just such a great value

It was definitely fast food quality but that is my number 2 in fast food burger/fries chains. That's true, yeah, but I never minded the fact that it's unsalted. Better that than oversalted. I was speaking more to the relative quality of the beef itself compared to other places. It's decent and doesn't have a "signature flavour" like every other burger out there does, if you get what I mean. Like... you can bite into a McDonald's, BK or Wendy's burger blindfolded and still accurately guess which one came from which place. A lot of people like the idea of a signature flavour but it just makes me think the patties have been adulterated.
That said, I'd rather have a burger at him or at any of the regionals ITT than from 5G.

I've also noticed from me seeing stuff online that the foreign McDonalds seem to be a lot more "experimental" with their menu items. Like interesting unique things that are only offered for a limited time. It even seems like Canada is like that Lol.

The location I grew up with is still good but I tried a new location once with a drive-thru and it was terrible. One place I feel is starting to get its grove back a bit is Taco Time. They were awesome when I was growing up then maybe about a decade ago they became terrible and only recently I feel they've improved to a point where I'd eat there regularly. It was like for a while they forgot to put cheese in the crisp beef burritos.

I liked 5G when it was a better value, but 5G is objectively bad at hot dogs. Was stoked to try them when they came out since I liked the burgers, but their dogs are just bleh. Only other real complaint besides value going down is that their cajun fries are always inconsistently seasoned and I never know if I'm going to get too little, too much, or that sweet spot of cajun so I always get the plain.

five guys is objectively complete trash compared to any "upscale" fast food cheeseburger place. Their quality has gone down and their prices have gone up. You pay for a burger crushed in tin foil, slopped with barely cared for toppings, all of which contains more grease than actual food.
