I know a guy who had a Michelin star. He owns castle Colmberg near Rothenburg and he told me he had to pay a lot of fees and it's mostly just talking to the judges. His food and homemade beer were genuinely great though. He kept a herd of deer and served venison with delicious sides. He is a very good cook anyways but it's still very traditional German cooking.

La gavroche was the first restaurant in the UK to get 3 stars in the mid 80s. They are still around and have 2 stars.
