I've had about 20-30 in one day

Probably 12, not counting hard liquor.
It was part of a century challenge, one shot of beer a minute for 100 minutes straight.
The real hurdle is not pissing yourself in that time frame. You're drinking 3/4 of a gallon in less than 2 hours, and it hurts the bladder like crazy.

I tried to get drunk off beer alone and made it to 14 before losing patience and switching to vodka because it wasn't doing anything.

This reminds me of a game I used to play with friends when I was 17-21.
It’s called wizard staffs.
Everyone playing needs an 18 pack and a roll of duct tape.

It takes me 21 beers to win, and my record is 27 for a staff.
This is not the most I’ve ever drank though, I had very bad alcoholism in my 20’s and averaged a handle per day, sometimes more.

I mean, I love drugs, don't get me wrong. When I went through a hard period in my life I loved smoking weed to escape. I also find weed and psychedelics extremely interesting. kek that's a based game. We used to play 'draak' (drank+schaak) which is chess but every piece you lose corresponds to a number of shots based on the piece value (pawn 1, bishop/knight 3, rook 5, queen 9), checkmate is 10. Mind you these aren't usually full 2cl hard liquor shots or most people wouldn't even last one round.

The fun part is that if you lose the first round, you're at a significant disadvantage for the 2nd round and so on, so you're basically guaranteed to go downhill fast. Also it really impacts chess strategy as a superior drinker yet inferior chess player can still beat a superior player by trying to trade off a lot of pieces getting the other player so plastered he can be beat in following rounds.

You can get just as drunk on beer as with hard liqour, difference is it takes longer so you're not consuming all that alcohol at once, you're also going to be more hydrated and slightly more satiated from the nutrients and calories in the beer.
