Thread for discussing goffee and goffee-related topics.

Every goffee is a coffee, but not every coffee is a goffee edition.

Every coffee more diluted than an espresso or moka pot is water and you can't fucking change my mind.

I tried making cold brew both with the Adam Adler's method in the aeropress and by steeping it 8-12-16 hours in a jar in the fridge and the result is again dirty water if I dilute the concentrate with cold water.

I can't believe that there are people who drink shit like Americano or v60 or whatever the fuck you disgusting pigs like to call coffee.

Coffe is EITHER espresso or moka pot, Turkish too if you like it, but if you drink anything more diluted you are a subhuman and you shouldn't post here.

I literally only
>buy the cheapest bean coffee from LIDL for less than $0.26 per oz of beans, even if I take a more expensive option
>literally drink coffee every day, and sometimes even 6 large cups because of how delicious it tastes
>the DeLonghi coffee machine is literally god tier and delivers the best quality I can imagine

I literally see no difference between the cheap beans from LIDL with the cheapest DeLonghi machine I could find compared to the ultra expensive coffees.

I drink all my coffee raw with zero additional stuff. Just tap water and beans grinded through my DeLonghi and pressed into my cup.

All this bullshit about "coffee difference" is just bullshit. Literally the cheapest beans coffee with the cheapest coffee machine I could find and normal tap water is for me more than enough.

Just imagine you can enjoy coffee every day, drink as much as you want, and see no meaningful difference in your money expenses.

I can't understand how people buy $1k+ machines and insanely expensive coffee. I love my coffee and I pay not even $100 in a year for coffee and I have the sub $300 machine already for year. And I talk about insane coffee consumption of at least 4+ LARGE cups per day.

If you spend insane amounts of money on coffee, just buy a cheap coffee machine (look up reviews if you can't get a very cheap DeLonghi), buy cheap bones from a grocery store you trust, and just test drinking this raw coffee for a months.

I wouldn't touch any expensive coffee anymore, because of how delicious my giga cheap coffee is.

Never, NEVER brew with water only leaving the lid opened, because there’s not coffee in the funnel providing resistance to the water flow, so you’re getting sprayed with boiling water at 1 bar of pressure.

So, doing this 3 times is not necessary, 1 is fine, just be sure to brew 3 coffees (as you would no normally) and throw them away in the sink. This will condition and coat the aluminium while removing all the residues in the moka.

Fill the boiler with hot tap water, valve covered, and add two teaspoons of white vinegar then give everything a stir and leave it resting at least 2 hours.

When the time has passed brew the vinegar solution like you would do when brewing a coffee (keep the lid closed the whole time) and when the solution has been expelled in the upper chamber leave it there until it gets cold, at that point throw it away and rinse everything, use a soft sponge with a single drop of soap and clean the moka (do not scratch and do not use the hard part of the sponge). Use a toothbrush instead.

If you have a steel moka you can discard the last part and scratch the fuck out of everything with steel wool or whatever you want, but do not do this on aluminium.

When your done brew 3 coffees and throw them away.

Done.

Look up "R Pavlis water" and use that in your chosen machine - it's basically brew ater concentrate you make out of distilled water and potassium bicarbonate, that you then add a few drops of to a bottle of distilled water that you brew with - tastes good and chemically cannot produce scale so you never ever need to descale.

okay, so I did the conditioning stuff the other anon suggested and I just now did my first real brew with the moka pot. Swapped to these illy classico beans instead of the Stumptown colombian beans I used for the aeropress and ground a bit more coarse than before. Moka pot brew is super strong, tastes thicker, and a bit bitter. I don't think I would enjoy drinking that normally flavor-wise but the texture was definitely just "more" than the aeropress brew. I shall do more experimentation tomorrow.

Moka pot isn’t bitter if done correctly, unless you brew blends with a lot of robusta.
You don’t need to go coarser than the Aeropress, you want to be just a touch above the espresso range.
Also you need more than 3 coffees to condition the aluminium so keep brewing.

Follow this method:

>add filtered water (cold) to the boiler until the level touches the valve inside
>fill the funnel with beans until they’re levelled with the top and grind them
>fill the funnel with the powder and gently press everything with your hand to make it flat, don’t worry about this
>screw the top part tightly and place the moka pot on a small burner
>turn on the stove at medium intensity or a bit less, the flame shouldn’t exceed the perimeter of the boiler
>keep the lid open the whole time
>when the coffee starts coming out lower the flame and keep observing the extraction
>when blonde coffee starts coming out immediately turn the stove off and let the residual heat finish the extraction
>you should not let the moka pot gurgle, at least the aluminium ones (the steel ones can do that even in the middle of the extraction)
>with a spoon, stir the coffee inside the moka to oxygenate it
>pour it in your cup and enjoy

>> No.19579427

>>19579422
Ps. If you’re drinking illy blend with robusta, add some white sugar in your cup to balance out the robusta bitterness.

Kek I felt the same way when I got some big flats. It felt like the range of what was tasty tripled and I could dial in on what I wanted way better because of it. I can imagine how far apart your coffee is on the 64V vs the lil etzinger cones at 1100rpm in the sette.

Thanks it's bittersweet much like the espresso we drink amirite!? Ok..

Df64 gen 2 when it comes to america or the niche duo. Is there a better flat burr single dose?

And I guess the profitec go. Haven't researched machines as much as I understand that my espresso will improve much more from a better grinder than machine. I don't froth much milk or need hot water as I like straight double shots. And only make 3 doubles a day so no need for a dual boiler I guess. But I do want consistent quality. got my loveramics twisted glass cups and my new beans today.
natural process Ethiopia Yirgacheffe "espresso" roast
and a washed Burundi Kayanza Gishubi "filter" roast.
i havent opened the burundi yet but the ethiopian is very fragrant, heavy dried berry smell and the taste is super light despite the roast being a medium dark.
i also got 2 new 6 cup E&B Lab competition filters for my E&B Lab 6 cup moka. the new gasket is going to take some time to break in but the new filter works just like the old which is nice, the gasket seems to be releasing pressure right at the end of the brew for some reason, im assuming this is because my old gasket expanded slightly over the past year.

anyway, back to the coffee and the cups, i poured the moka into the 180ml twisted glass cup and it looks and feels great, the thickness and they weight of the glass is much more than i expected but it is really nice and also unique to drink out of, smooth on the inside, angled and twisted on the outside.
very nice quality of the glass. it just looks amazing in the sun.

and the taste of the Yirgacheffe was super light and fruity, but also herbal. heavy strawberry and hibiscus tea. but also kinda diluted feeling in a way i didnt expect.
right away i like a full body caffeine """high""" kind of feeling, i have been drinking a dark blend from a "local roaster" which was roasted a few weeks ago because i ran out of good beans earlier than i expected so maybe those beans had lower caffeine %?
will be interested to try these beans more.
those other beans weren't bad actually, tasted like burnt fruit toast with butter so it might be nice to blend these 2 beans together for like a berry toast type thing.

oh and the packaging for the loveramics twisted glass cups was really good.
and i had a good day today, how about you guys :)
(probably going to have another goffee later :3 )

Most people are perfectly happy with what they get with the cheap stuff, but by spending just a bit more you can drastically improve the quality. second goffee has now been made
latte in the 360ml cup
ok but these beans really demand black or a teaspoon of sugar.
its fine but it feels a bit like putting milk into green tea.
also a little quirk with these cups is because the outside is twisted and the inside is smooth(it could just be my cups but i doubt it) it doesnt sit perfectly flat on the table, it does a tiny wobble because its essentially sitting on the 12 corners and because of the twist there is a very slight variation of the corners, probably less than like half a mm.
i doubt you would even notice the slight wobble unless you were specifically trying to find it or were fiddling with the cup after finishing your drink.
but at the same time these were very cheap glasses. like $15 each i think? thats a steal imo.
and the 360ml cup is really heavy, the maybe half inch of solid thick glass just on the bottom doesnt help.
but it does give the whole appearance of the drink inside the glass a literal "elevated" feel.

i had this coffee with something i have never had before which is a sweet potato pie with melted marshmallows on top(pic is stock photo not my actual pie, which had a much thicker base and much smoother, creamier sweet potato. it also wasn't a casserole, i dont know why they keep showing me casseroles instead of pies when i specifically search for pie, are americans retarded, do they not know the difference between a pie and a casserole?) and honestly its great, this is a great sweet pie.
i would take this over a pavlova any christmas.

I used to own one and switched to a gifted NZ about 3 months ago. It is not bad at all for its price point, quite easy to dial roasts and a pretty broad range of coarseness-most of my espresso hung out around the 10s. The only downsides are

1)significant retention in the chute. Removing the burrs and cleaning up is super easy and I did that with every new coffee so I wouldn't get cross contamination and it would take me under 10 minutes. The downside is you'll lose 1-3 grams off your first grind afterwards

2. There's quite a bit of popcorning

3. It's loud as hell. If you live with somebody else and are the first to wake up in the morning + cannot put it in a place with good sound insulation it might be a dealbreaker, but it's not like a vibratory pump isn't loud too.

have not pulled a single good shot since getting my flair, the filter always looks spotty unlike how ideal shots should look and is usually way on the sour side, im making an effort to preheat the brew head, basket, shower head, etc and it just sucks, i cant even tell where to improve

sorry, I got distracted
Yeah I think it's more or less been an ideal starter grinder for me, I also have a bambino I use for espresso so I get really good use out of it's half/half espresso grind and pourover grind setting split
It's reasonably easy to clean and has some nice extra stuff going on like the changeable grounds reservoir and replaceable hopper if that's something you're into
I also personally think the white one is really aesthetically pleasing and I get great coffee out of it
I got mine for a little under $180 USD if i remember right and I don't regret it for a second
