What is the superior container for storing eggs in the fridge? The cartons they come in, or those plastic boxes? Europoor so the eggs do come still with the cloaca juice coat intact, but there is zero reason not to refrigerate eggs anyway.

I got two litttle moveable trays that hold 6 eggs each, I pop my eggs into the trays because it takes up less space, easy to grabem, and also I can move them around if need to adjust things to make space

they're cleaned which reduces their shelf live by like 50% of sommat. if you leave them covered in fæces they last longer or whatever.

if you refrigerate eggs like most do it makes literally no difference either way. also I've noticed that in Stralia the eggs used to be just on a shelf near the bread or whatever, but for the last maybe 5 years they're kept refrigerated. I don't know if this is because they're washing them now or not. Half the eggos I buy have small spots of poop and feathers stuck to them so idunno what's going on

I'm Danish and all eggs from the store are refrigerated here. They keep for ages that way so unless you collect and eat them fresh from your own hens daily there's no reason you shouldn't put them in there.

unrefrigerated eggs will keep for 2 to 3 months or even more. the water buoyancy test is fool proof.

That's cool and stuff but the question is if the boxes are any better than the cartons at storing the eggs

some recipes specify room temperature eggs. Most of the time it's probably just a meme, and doesn't matter, but I think I've encountered a recipe where temperature supposedly mattered.
I still keep them in the fridge though, I live in Norway and they're sold and stored cold here as well.

it pretty much is. if it floats it's fucked. if it sinks it's great. if there's a touch of buoyancy and it wants to sit up right then it's almost certainly still fine but you can smell test but is beginning to be on the turn within a week or maybe two+. if it sits half way it's also fucked. but if it floats even half an inch again it's probably still completely fine.
>>19493457
fair comment but who the hell has a carton of eggs sat in the fridge for 6 months. you may as well not buy them if you're not even eating them!

poached eggs turn out better room temp and also it greatly increases the chance of an egg cracking/popping when hard/soft boiling if they're cold.

I think if it sink like a rock or floats like a buoy then yes, you can interpret that. But for most of the life of an egg in someone's home it's likely to be somewhere between, where it leans upright or sort of floats but with one heavy side, or it sits on the bottom with its ass trying to lift up slightly, and that's the grey area where nobody knows wtf is going on or really how safe it is
