19480543 No.19480543 [Reply] [Original]

Hi /ck/, I am from Italy visiting the USA on student visa. I met a girl at my college and we really got along, she said that she loves pasta, because of that I invited her over to eat some pasta with me and she said yes.
For her I made a pasta that I love and which my mom in Italy always made for me, "Penne Burro con Olio al Aglio, Peperoncino, Prezzemolo" ... Which not only is fun to say but is delicious.
I serve the pasta to both of us on a plate and I am enjoying it very much right away but she has an ugly expression on her face.
"This is just plain pasta" she told me, and says something like "I thought you said you would cook" or "Didn't you say that you could cook?" something like this... I was in shock... plain pasta, but it has like $25 of ingredients in it...
So I tell her this and she says to me "Do I look stupid to you?" and leaves.
Did I make a mistake here? Did she expect me to order out? I'm not good with American culture yet, apparently. Back in Italy all the girls I made this for loved it.... it's a 10/10 meal so I am not sure what happened.

You mean it is perfectly Al Dente? Yes, it is.
And there are $25 worth of ingredients. $4 of organic butter from Europe, all organic sliced Peperoncino, Prezzemolos, Garlics... the oil I used is from Italy, it is a noble and expensive oil. https://mannioil.com/ Probably alone I used $20 of oil.
I wanted that pusi anon, I went all-out.

In the US that'd be a side dish, or something to make when you don't have much else available. I don't mind that but I'd need some cheese to really enjoy it.

She was probably expecting a tomato sauce or creamy alfredo, with meat or vegetables. But if she got that upset over it then she might not be that pleasant to be around anyway.

The quality of pasta looks terrible, tho. Probably the worst pennette rigate you found in the supermarket, probably Barilla.
And to be honest any other basic dish would've been a better choice to impress an American girl expecting to eat pasta from an Italian guy. That really looks like plain pasta, it's hard to explain this dish to Americans.
And extra advice, you already fucked up serving garlic as one of the main ingredients to a woman.

I'm just your normal American heathen. We like pasta, sauce, and meat. Don't know shit about real Italian cuisine and I never got to taste the homemade food from uni friends who were actually born and raised in Italy. And I recently made a post that really has made me need to measure up my cooking skills. But even I know that that's not "pasta", meaning, that that's REALLY, REALLY NOT what most people have in mind for pasta or cooking skills here in America.

I'd tell you to kiss that bitch goodbye but I guess even with all your sexy* European-ness, you're never gonna kiss that girl, huh?
