Just learned about this. I'm not from america so I have never tried it but it sounds good. Is it?

>> No.19427693

Try it and see if you like it.
I don't like it, but other people like it. I mean, just because a jew won't eat bacon, that doesn't mean other people won't like it.

It's my go to for seafood based dishes.
I'll especially use it on salmon and shrimp.

How is it on chicken and other things?

>> No.19427765

It's nothing special. If you like it great, but most people find it to be acceptable which is to say doesn't make the food worse for having it.

Mandatory for hard boiled eggs. You will never go back to using just salt, it will always feel like its missing something and you'll wish you had OLD BAY instead.

It's OK on chicken especially if you don't overdo it
I'd cut it with other spices, especially for beef or pork

it's delicious. nothin like a blue crab boil with old bay
>>19427763
great on chicken. sometimes i'll coat an entire chicken in it before popping it in the oven, comes out beautifully
>>19427777
good for deviled eggs too

It's pretty good on chicken too.
Lots of people in the area use it on chips and fries here too. Crab fries(fries with old bay dipped in a cheese sauce) are the only time crinkle cut fries are good.

>> No.19428326

>>19427686
it's mostly just celery salt. it's ok.

American here - old bay is paprika, celery salt, and red/black pepper. Personally, I prefer the garlic variant that adds garlic to the mix. It works very well with seafood, though it is not the "best" seafood seasoning. Seafood magic adds a few more things to that mix and is slightly better than old bay.

It is a great addition to fries/tots to add seasoning to them. Definitely a key ingredient to cream of crab soup, hands down. Lot of NE USA located folks will swear by it.

>>19427763
I use bbq style seasoning on chicken, so I've never put old bay on chicken to verify if it was any good or not. It probably works in theory.

People here in new england love it for seafood. I hate seafood though, so I dont keep any on me or cook with it.

It's great. It's THE essential ingredient in Maryland-style steamed crabs and shrimp, but also great on things like hard-boiled eggs, baked potatoes, popcorn. Mid-Atlantic chads can buy Old Bay potato chips ("crab chips"), Ole Bay peanuts. Now as for this guy...
>>19427765
>It's nothing special.
...yeah, it's nothing special, but that also means there's very little to go wrong. It's just celery salt with some pepper and paprika in a convenient package. That's it. So, you'll eventually use it on something. But...
>I'm not from america
...are you in America now? Because it's probably not worth paying crazy online prices just to try. But if you get can it at cheap domestic prices, then yeah, try it--along with Goya Adobo (CON pimienta), another all-purpose seasoning.

1 can of light beer
2 tablespoons of old bay
Bring to boil.
Add pound of shrimp and cook a minute
Stir them a bit and cook another minute
Cover and turn off the heat for another 2 minutes.
Strain and then toss with more old bay to your liking

No restaurant in Maryland actually uses Old Bay. Picrel is what is used at any place worth eating.
Old Bay is ok if you have literally no other options but it's too celery salt heavy.

I've wondered what crab trucks use, since there's gotta be an alternative to paying a premium for the "Old Bay" name. But if OP ain't in HON territory, then Old Bay at least as the wider distribution.

I'm from Baltimore so it can be in a lot of things here. The best application is in steamed blue crabs and crab cakes. Don't know if you have crabs in your country(which you could name to help us give suggestions). Shit is overpowering in a lot of other dishes.

Knorr Aromat is a lot better imo.
