If it's an Italian it's an acceptable price. Have you never made a proper Italian sub at home? Just the prosciutto and gabagool are over $1/ounce even for the garbage you get at Walmart. A proper Italian sub will run you around $20 in ingredients made at home if you want a good one. If you're paying that much for a tuna sub or a cheesesteak though you're probably retarded.

I don't much care for eggs on my burgers but beetroot is fucking amazing on a burger and should be more popular. The rest is fairly standard in terms of lettuce, pickles, etc. A lot of places don't use melty burger cheese singles (those literally only started to exist in this country in the last 10 years or so), so a lot of places use other cheeses or even a slice of tasty cheese (cheddar). not that anon but just wanted to vent my frustration about this. I'm born and bred American but have lived in Aus just shy of 18 years now and especially in the last 10 years I have found so many Australianisms eroding and it perturbs me. In 2005 nobody said "chips" unless they were talking about french fried potatoes, and yes crispy potato snacks were always "crisps". Now I swear most Aussies talk American and call them fries and chips. Also in 2005 you couldn't find anyone wearing a fucking ballcap, ever. Now there's a goddamn Lids in the local shopping centre.

I know this is first world annoyance but I feel sad seeing all this go and what's going to disappear next? Pretty soon the pub will be a bar and not a pub or hotel and there'll be underpaid single mother waitresses desperate for ttips. I don't want it bros, I don't want that at all.

After every shitty chain jacked their prices astronomically at the very same time the US dollar chose to bend over backwards and fuck it’s own ass, pubsubs always held it down.
Same prices (I get the Italian or chicken tender sub when they’re on sale), and I don’t mind physically ordering a sando to pay a literal 1/3 of the cost of a shitty chain sub.
So I guess I got that going for me.

I feel you man. Being the oldest of millennials I got to live my youth in a world without the internet. The thing that hurts the most for me is the loss of nationwide cultural touchstones. Back in the 80s, 90s pop culture was a joint experience. There's no such thing as someone that lived through the 80s that hasn't seen "Aliens" and "Terminator" or heard/seen Michael Jacksons "Thriller". Now that everyone has become insular in their own digital echo chambers, while we're all still surrounded by pop culture, it's customized to each person's taste so it's no longer shared. Yes, you can likely find someone to talk about "Stranger Things" with, but they're also equally likely to have never even heard of it. I know this is essentially moaning about vapid consumerism, but it was a legitimately important part of America. Now if there's any bit of culture/news/opinions that someone disagrees with they just tune it out/don't go to that site/block that person. Everyone, including little old ladies, has become a cult member of their own design. Memes are all that remain now of anyone's pop culture.

The flip side is that once you got past the mainstream, niche cultures existed, but were INCREDIBLY more insular without online communities. I do understand your point that it was important to have more cohesion/intersection between culture and physical/local communities. That's a loss. I would further add that the spread of online communities is responsible for harmful and mentally ill ideologies gaining undue prominence, due to an illusion of greater representation and thus "support". But if you were somewhere in the middle, just a little weird, a little outside the mainstream without being toxic, then the virtual world was indeed the boon that was promised.

I was poor most of my life and lived in the lowest income neighborhoods so I think living near 2 or 3 drug addicts is one of the nicest neighborhoods I've ever lived in. I also dont even live in a city. I live in a Borough of like 300 and it's a 12 minute drive at 55 mph just to reach the nearest town of 1000.

Despite living in essentially the middle of nowhere I can still walk to 2 gas stations, a restaurant, a meat market, 2 banks, a post office, and occasionally a food truck in the summer. Its a typical rust belt place that used to be a genuine town but now is mostly residential with sparse businesses dotting the area.

It's not a big deal but it does peen me a bit. For some reason I don't know why, everyone started saying "search it up" instead of "look it up". Saying "search it up" instead of look it up or looking something up just makes less sense and sounds better than "searching it up".

Might as well just do pickup that's insane. 1/3 of the bill solely for service.

Yes a beetroot slice in a burger may seem unintuitive but is an incredible ingredient for a beef burger.

The drinks and chips are what kill me. There is no reason inflation should have hit them the way they did. It's 100% Obama "legacy" planned price increases. We let them do this shit to cigarette manufacturers and now they're doing it to "junk" food. Chips, sodas and candies will be ridiculously expensive and behind the counters in a few years.

I’m all for a sin tax on junk food, honestly.
I just wish we’d actually put the accrued resources towards public infrastructure (because I know we’ll never get socialized healthcare, haha).
