After a not so great father's day cookout, I'll be the one cooking tomorrow: barbecued pork ribs, potato salad, collards, homemade red soda (hibiscus) and carrot slaw. Today, I was fed overcooked steak, roti (with fucking steak?), cabbage and rice and peas.
And my five year old had unicorn ice cream after services today and asked if we could have some at tomorrow's cookout, so that's another thing to worry about.

I'm liberal af, cohabitating with a black-ish woman and raising our mixed-race son and still think it was stupid to make Juneteenth a federal holiday.
For one, how in the shit are white people supposed to celebrate it? And how can we do so respectfully, without looking like we're glorifying stereotypes, making a caricature of it or using black people as props?
Secondly, even most black people never bothered with it. I've only known about Juneteenth a little over a decade and that's because I was dating a different nigress (100% black, that one) who comes from an educated family and whose college professor wineaunt talked my ear off about it at a Juneteenth cookout at the time, specifically telling me that it, like Kwanzaa, is not celebrated by the vast majority of black folks but EDUCATED black people (she made that distinction very, very clearly; she made her disgust for uneducated black people even clearer).
Third and finally, if you were gonna make anything a federal holiday, it should've been election day.
