All meat pies are good. No meat pies are as good as kiwi meat pies. Yes, I'm American. I'm also a meat pie conosiuor. I recommend the natchitoches (pronounced nack-a-tish) meat pie from Louisiana for a local version.

I hear you. There used to be a little British tea room here in Connecticut where you could get Cornish pasties, steak & ale pies, etc served hot. They closed down a few years ago, before the pandemic.

I found another place that was supposed to have them and drove about 45 minutes, only to be disappointed. I have to go to New York if I want them hot, but usually I’ll just pick up 3-4 from Myers of Keswick in the Village and take them home.

Michigan pasties and Louisiana meat pies are reliably great American meat pies.

I used to fly to Livonia, MI for work. Sampled pasties near the area. Good stuff, but I have absolutely no desire to live there or in Louisiana,

Also, one of the places I tried was Superior Pasties which the Internet says is literally in Livonia so I guess you’re just uninformed

Poms can't make good pies
You have to go to Australia or New Zealand for them

You haven't lived until you've scranned a steak and ale pie in a 500 year old rain-lashed pub on the Welsh coast. Cannot imagine eating a pie with your temperatures.

don't want to be a student-union wannabe twittertard making everything about class but its literally about class
in this instance useless young middle-class urbanites exotifying what they think are working class signifiers. in reality the servo pie is a pie of last resort

It's because, unlike Americans, they aren't far enough removed from their English ancestry to have a real culture beyond being exaggerated British people. It's the same with Canada, they latch on to what few cultural signifiers they have and spout it everywhere in the hopes that it serves as a substitute for having real culture and history behind you.

Why reinvent the wheel? A rich gravy with big chunks of beef or lamb stewing cuts like the pie in the OP is about as good as it gets. Knockoffs of Cornish style pasties are dogshit, and unfortunately that's the dominant style in Australia.

Celebrating this shit:

for no sound reason, it's the US adaptation of the concept, reveals a lot about the US superiority complex and how deeply insecure and immature they are. As boastful as Australians can be on the internet, at least when it comes to pies Brit, Kiwi, and Aussie pride isn't grossly misplaced.
