Has a piece of media ever lead you to go find and try a food?
For example, I set aside time when I was in the North East to get a pork roll egg and cheese. I did this because of the band Ween.

Marketing is a hell of a drug. I just watched "Waterworld" starring Kevin Costner, and now I can't stop drinking water. I tried quitting for a few days but just became increasingly obsessed with drinking water, even submerging my body in it. Dis-gus-teng. In my desperation, I hired a man to hook up a permanent water supply to my house. It's hopeless, I guess Big Water has got me for good now.

literally same OP, except I've never had a real one from an establishment. I was able to source Taylor Ham at a grocery store here, and I made my own pork roll egg and cheese at home. I really liked it and I can see why it's a popular sandwich. Can't wait to try one for real if I ever visit the northeast again.

OP is referring to food that is mentioned in media, but not direct advertisements or product placement necessarily. Pork Roll, Egg, and Cheese by Ween is a perfect example. https://youtu.be/TutI8k49xoA

Yeah, basically this. I'm gonna get Fugu in Japan when I'm there because their media dotes on it so much.
One time I was listening to a Mitch Hedburg album and the next time I was at a diner got a club sandwich because of his joke about it.
I guess, more generally was looking for artistic pieces that go on about a specific food. Like Proust going on about his Madelines.

Chill, you already did try it "for real". We grew up eating Taylor Pork Roll at home, never ate it "out". The pork is the same, the eggs are the same, the cheese is up to you, most people will use American or cheddar, but people don't get autistic about it like Philly cheesesteak cheese. The roll mentioned by Ween is a Kaiser bun, and maybe some people do spazz about the bread, but anything resembling a sandwich roll, what we call a "hard roll", or frankly even a hamburger bun would do. It's a /comfy/ sandwich, so you use whatever you have, whatever works. Pork roll isn't "owned" by a few meme restaurants, there's no wrong way to do it unless you forgot the pork roll. (Speaking of which, there are a few brands, and there's thin vs. thick cut, and even a few seasoned/spicy varieties, but do you think Dean & Gene Ween are going to freak about the small stuff when they have bigger concerns, like crying in their sleep, or whether the voodoo lady will make the red beans & rice, or... AIDS?)

ALSO as long we're talking breakfast sammies, we have a local place that does cheap bacon-egg-cheeses for tradies, and it comes with a hash brown, and they ask if you want the hash brown ON the sandwich. Deffo try that, my dudes. And ignore the haters, dip it all in ketchup if you want.
