Local restaurant? If I’m being waited on and they’re nice I’ll leave them a few bucks as a thank you.

If it’s just some fast food place that added ‘add a tip’ on the card reader? Fucking nothing. Tipping cashiers is ridiculous.

A 40% tip is absolutely ridiculous.

Tipping is the spirit of capitalism. Socialism breeds selfishness and not wanting to do things for others, it switches a persons mindset from society is my responsibility to I am society’s responsibility.

Nothing. Our minimum wage is 16€ and inflation adjusted. Meaning wages go up automatically as life becomes more expensive. Life is good.

I work 2nd shift, it's pretty slow, so I get to talk to customers. Just started at this store, moved from another location. Guy tells me I'm the best server he's had here and tipped 10 on 12. Goes on to say that all the girls are gossipy and would rather talk to each other, and put on their fake service voice when checking on him.
just be yourself, it all evens out. i'm regular nice to blacks who come in every day and never tip, and i'm regular nice to the people who come in once in a while but tip well.
granted they see me actually working, with other customers, doing dishes, helping out my cook, prepping food, not standing around with my phone.

Tipping seems like a scam. I mean, why don't they just charge more for the food so they can pay their employees more money?

I should really save this response in my pasta.txt file.

I have no idea how this came to be a part of American culture, and it does seem kind of silly.
But American-style tipping does give the customer a huge veto power over a big chunk of a server's pay.
It almost never comes to that, but if I'm VERY dissatisfied, I can withhold a significant portion of the server's pay. It's honestly never come up for me in all my life, but if it ever does, I don't have to beg a manger to withhold some part of a server's pay.
"b-b-but why am I paying extra??!??"
You're not. Under the Euro system, you're essentially tipping 20+% whether you like it or not.
Such wow, so great.

Now that you mention it, it DOES make sense. I mean, it's not like low IQ poorfags would otherwise understand the basics of social etiquette, and bribing them with money seems like a good strategy.

I've never seen EMTs paid that low, that's weird. It's with all the lower end stuff that still requires certs and education. It's common practice in health care to have less than bare minimum staff running at all given points and just run those employees ragged. Was before the covid shit too.
