You're using bacon because your meatloaf has shit crust.

1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 can tomato sauce
1 lb ground beef
3/4 tablespoon salt
1/4 cup onions
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon dried parsley
dash of pepper

Saute onions for ~5 minutes
Spray baking pan with cooking spray
Combine all ingredients thoroughly
Shape into loaf, place into pan
Bake for around 50 minutes at 350

The tomato sauce and wheat germ make for a fantastic crust.

Burgers, patty melts, sloppy joes, loose-meat sandwiches, meatballs, tacos, burritos, empanadas... seasoning and/or emulsifying ground meats to make sausages or other things opens up a huge variety to make pizza, calzones, kebabs, biscuits and gravy... all of which and more are better than meatloaf in my opinion.

I hate this board so much. You ruin any chance of having a decent crust like this, doubly so when you cover it in bacon that's going to soak grease into the meat. If you have to be some meming faggot adding bacon to everything, at least put the bacon in a separate drip pan so it's fully crunchy.

Ketchup is essential for meatloaf. Bourdain even put it in his tartare too. But I suppose it’s cool to hate ketchup because it makes you seem edgy to your peers

It's not about hating ketchup, it's about not soaking it into the outside of the meat ruining the crust. Just dip the meatloaf in ketchup, bbq sauce, mustard, or whatever you want once it's finished.
