Thread for discussing coffee and coffee-related topics.

Goffee is love, goffee is SOVL edition.

If you're new or confused, start here: https://pastebin.com/UEzwuyLz

If you're old and confused, have you binned your aluminium moka in favour of a stainless steel one?

New coffee day, bros.

Today I started the Brazil Santos “X” by /ourguy/ Alberto “Nespresso? Giù nel cesso” Trabatti.

Here are some inspiring pictures.

The goffee.

This is EXTREMELY chokky, the cocoa is so intense even the goffee looks like melted chocolate, pure bliss.

I’m not sure about the grind size because I can feel some abstringent notes, tonight I’ll go 2 clicks coarser and see how it changes.

How come beans dont "work" like tea? Tea leaves you can brew more than once and still get a good cuppa. Coffee is basically one and done no matter the beans, brew method, etc. Is there any way to get multiple cups out of the same batch? I mean Ive done it before just as an experiment and it produces a cup but not something that really tastes good in any way, though it does still tend to be better than your average foldgers bullshit

A little bit of bitterness, just a bit, and a hint of astringency.
With 2 click coarser both of them disappeared, but then again I made a full 3 cup moka without the reducer, so imho it has an impact.

>> No.19337236

Got a 6 cup moka pot recently just to try something different. V60 and Flair Pro 2 are my daily drivers. Was looking for something a bit more full bodied than a typical V60 cup but with more volume than a shot of espresso from the Flair. Moka seemed like a good option but so far my experience has been kind of lackluster and I feel like I'm doing everything right.

>fill basket to the brim, fits ~29g of medium-dark Sumatra
>fill base with 225g freshly boiled water
>put moka pot on electric coil burner set to medium heat
>wait
>wait some more
>finally get some liquid flowing at a fairly slow rate
>remove from heat
>let the liquid continue to flow for about 30 seconds or until it stops
>reintroduce heat before removing again
>repeat process for about 2 minutes or so
>end up with a little over 100g of coffee
>cup is flat and acidic

I was worried about brewing some overly bitter sludge but the end result was pretty much the opposite. Somewhat sour and boring; all the acidity of espresso but none of the richness or sweetness. I figured there had to be some under extraction or channeling occurring but examining the puck didn't provide any answers as the grounds looked like they were evenly saturated.

Any tips mokabros? I want to get the hype but I don't feel like wasting 29g of coffee just to brew disappointment.

I have been a cofe autist for many years and nothing eludes me like papua new guinea beans through my la pavoni. I don't know why, but with them specifically they always always make watery espresso, even with adjustments. I never have this problem with ANY other bean locale. Now it doesn't taste bad but i wouldn't exactly call it espresso. Im thinkin they're just not made for espresso which sucks because i have 5lbs of green beans.

After 1 full year of making coffee with multiple moka pots I reached this conclusion: it’s a meme.
I tried single origin beans, from all over the world, I tried blends, I tried dark and medium roasts, but despite all these coffees being described as having vastly different key aromas, to me all the cups I drank felt like weak “more of the same” coffee.

I was told that moka coffee was super strong and concentrated, and yet I’m still to find a coffee that tastes 100% good and satisfies me, the only relevant difference I could taste was the difference in acidity and that’s all.
Bread crust? Chocolate? Fruit? Berries? Strawberry jam? I can’t taste any of this, not even a hint, and I make my coffee correctly.

The only and I mean the ONLY coffee I really liked was Italian blends, probably dark or medium dark roasts, because these always have that distinct flavour of strong coffee that I love, because to me this is how coffee should taste like…but still, if I used the same coffee to make an espresso the result is miles better than the coffee from the moka.

I’m not mad, really, I’m just sad and disappointed because I can’t understand why so many people truly enjoy this method but I can’t, it’s frustrating.

The symbolism is quite strong here.

The angled fixture that holds the moka pot is clearly an erect penis which “pisses” coffee through the moka attached to it, so the meaning here is that you’re drinking Alberto’s juice, his vital fluids.

It really boggles the mind.

I have a question on cost efficiency for which searching isn't getting me helpful articles. There is sentiment that cold brew is a rather inefficient method in terms of input coffee to output beverage, and I think I understand this to be the result of it being brewed as a concentrate such that the same volume trapped in the grounds holds more of the yield (1:4->2 of 4 parts in grounds, 1:8->2 of 8 parts, 1:15->2 of 15 parts). Does the same not apply to brewing stronger coffee with other methods or is there another property that is a factor (assuming grind size and steep time are accounted for)? Does pressure make espresso or aeropress more efficient?

TL:DR or to take a less scientific angle: what is the best method to brew decently strong coffee with minimal ongoing cost in beans?

>really, really, nice decoration with warm lights and a lot of wood furniture
>they play some innofensive music like lo fi, simple pop or yatch rock which is cool for relaxing
>there will always be at least 3 young girls going in, so you can have a look
>they probably pay very little to the employees so they are simple people and generally friendly
>coffee is relatively cheap and IMO 10/10
>i even buy pike place to brew at home

>go to "real", "authetic" coffeehouse that /ck/ would approve
>hip and modern bullshit decoration thats ugly as hell
>no yatch rock playing
>only old people who can afford this thing, literally faggots who base their whole identity around drinking coffee, fat women in theirs 30's
>employees are insuferably pretentious "baristas" who think preparing a beverage is the same as doing brain transplant
>coffee is 5x more expensive than starbucks
>a lot of bullshit like strawberry notes or french press extraction and so on
>dont want to buy this expensive small package from micro-single-origin poor guatemalan farmer that i couldnt care less about if he starves to death or not tomorrow, because that not my problem and im just interested in drinking coffee, not saving the world

Im not a fan of the jews, but damn, starbucks mastered the whole coffehouse experience. Literally impossible to compete with them.

They aren't really a scam, because of the cost of rent, equipment, upkeep and employee salaries, it really is just more expensive to produce coffee for that cafe than it is for you, so they will charge more, and they would probably like to turn a profit as well. That being said, it's definitely not worth it to drink coffee at a cafe every day when you can just make it at home

Lol wrote 1 email to them and never got a reply, next step is going back to the shop that sold me the pot and ask them to deal with the assistance.

Btw I still have 9 years and 10 months of warranty.

Tonight I made goffee with the Bialetti and it tasted worse than the Giannina, it wasn’t bad at all but there were some acidic notes that wasn’t there with the stainless steel pot.

The Giannina makes good coffee, too bad I got a fucked up pot. Sad, but it happens.

experience tells me the average owner of this machine doesn't know how to or doesn't ever descale the boilers. and as far as traditional espresso machines go, it's because super-automatic machines don't know how to steam milk the way a human can, or how to pour it, or when to do all of this stuff. traditional espresso's there is more work for the user to make a milked espresso drink, but it's much more worth it because once you have it down you can make a perfect cappuccino which outdoes a super-automatic.
