>Flying Jacob is a Swedish casserole composed of chicken, cream, chilli sauce, bananas, roasted peanuts and bacon. The dish is baked in an oven and is usually served with rice and a salad. The dish was invented by Ove Jacobsson who worked in the air freight industry, hence the name
what is going on in that country?

It sounds weird but I would still try either way.

I think the bananas just seem odd. If it used plantains instead it wouldn't seem too off for Hispanic or Caribbean food.

That looks pretty good. Is it actually popular in Sweden, or is it some sort of weird niche dish barely anyone ever eats?

Yeah, I'm trying this. I'm sure there are examples to the contrary, but pretty much every single dish with banana as an ingredient is S-tier. Unless it's trying to be horrid.

It looks like it was kind of a 70's meme food but some people still make it

>While its popularity has long since peaked, visitors to Sweden can still track it down in small restaurants and cafeterias. And if that doesn’t sound appealing to you, you should know that most foreigners who express dismay at the ingredient list go on to praise Flying Jacob once they’ve tried it, confessing shame over their previous reservations or complimenting the brilliant pairing of sweet bananas, Italian spice, and smoky bacon fat. If you plan to cook it at home on your own, Dr. Tellström advises, “it must be Heinz chili sauce.”

Swefag /ck/ anon here. Maybe I'm just damaged since I grew up with it, but its honestly pretty dope and I make it regularly.

Rough recipe in case any anons want to try it

4 Chicken thighs (Each around 5 ounces)
5 ounces of bacon
1 Banana
1 Cup "Matlagningsgrädde" (Basically regular cream with around 12% fat content, I hear Half and half is pretty similar so maybe try that)
1/3 Cup of bottled Heinz Chili sauce (This is needed for sweetness and heat. And yes nigger you need this; If you cant find it, maybe you can get away with some ketchup that you spice with Cayenne or something)
1/3 Cup of salted peanuts

Dice bacon and fry in pan until cooked but not fully crisp (Will get done in the oven). Remove from pan and conserve bacon grease. Salt and pepper your chicken and fry it in the bacon grease in the same pan on high heat. Chicken also finishes in the oven so don't overcook it here; Just get some color on it and then take it out.

Put chicken in Casserole and sprinkle bacon on top. Slice banana and layer on top of chicken.

Mix chili sauce and cream, salt and pepper to taste. (If you have some fond in the pan from your chicken and bacon, consider deglazing with your cream and scraping up the bits before adding Chili sauce)

Put in a preheated oven set to 225 degrees Celcius (Roughly 450 Degrees Fahrenheit for you burgers) for 20 minutes.

Serve on top of rice.

Its a very forgiving recipe so feel free to adjust ratios etc.

Forgot to mention, the salted peanuts are strewn on top of the casserole when you take it out of the oven.

The dish is very hearty with a slight sweetness thanks to the bananas and chili cream sauce. The bacon and chicken are very rich and pairs very well with rice.

It gets around, but like the other guy says it's more of a retro thing.
