Haven't done this in a while, this time we'll go to Uganda, seems like a nice country, let's see what kind of restaurants, food, and people they have.

As always, locals are welcome to explain to us what we're seeing.

Let's go, pic related, it's from Café Frikadellen in a city called Masaka in Uganda

The food looks great. Unfortunately there aren't many photos of food/restaurants in more rural areas, I guess it's because most people in Uganda aren't perpetually online.
Most photos from restaurants are from Kampala, which is the capital and biggest city.
Burgers and pizza are really popular (like anywhere else) but I don't bother posting those because it's boring.
Aside from that, it's clear their cuisine is heavily influenced by Indian, Asian, and other cuisines.
I feel like when I did this thread on Zimbabwe, that country had more genuine local specialties to offer.

Cool thread OP, made me laugh. I don't know if this is too off topic for your liking, or you'd find it interesting, but I was watching videos based in some African country I forget now and noticed how hard they work, biking 12 hours per day for an hourly wage which they repeatedly discussed. They bought food, and most fascinating to me is after I looked into it I realised if you break down local food prices and local wages, the hourly rate and purchasing power for items like root vegetables and eggs worked out even when compared to my country. Essentially, no matter where you are, or what you do, there seemed to be, at least in some cases, a unifying standardisation somehow (in terms of what food you can buy in trade for an hour of your time).

Unfortunately the case everywhere. I was bored a couple days ago and looked at restaurant pics from Greenland and the Canadian arctic and it's pretty much just burgers, fries, pizzas and other easily frozen processed food. You only see freaky, unique restaurant food in places that are developed enough to have a consumer economy, but not developed enough to be completely integrated into global supply chains.
> Essentially, no matter where you are, or what you do, there seemed to be, at least in some cases, a unifying standardisation somehow (in terms of what food you can buy in trade for an hour of your time).
Makes sense. Food is the most basic, necessary consumable item that is also easily sellable. It's true that everywhere I've lived, the hourly minimum wage is the equivalent of a couple days food from basics, or the cost of a cheap fast food restaurant meal. Economists even use the price of a Big Mac between countries to measure the purchasing power of different currencies.

>2,140 PPP dollars (2021)
Ok, so what's a PPP dollar worth?

https://www.google.com/search?q=ppp+dollars
>How do you convert PPP to US dollars?
>The current value of 1 PPP is $0.00 USD.
Pretty sure that's a rounding error, but still.
Sounds like if even one tourist shows up and buys a burger they could get anywhere else in the world, it would be a serious help to their economy.
