i'm having a hard time thinking of the most quintessential excellent american food.

the immediate and most obvious i would think is a good burger. it hits the spot on a primordial level. as far as sweet i'd argue a perfect chocolate chip cookie is the best dessert. the problem is i don't think either of those can universally be at the top because they're both done very wrong very often.

British Fish and chips are terrible. The chips always smell like fish (probably fried in the same oil as fish), 99% of times they are chunky chips and dry and not even freshly fried. Fish on the other hand is the worst, because I don't even know what fish they use and what coating but after frying there is literally no actual fish left only fried outer shell. And they are proud of such garbage. I love Full English but fish and chips is trash.
