At least half of the ones ITT aren't that bad at all--sneed oils and "Aspic loaves" excluded.
The real horrors are when copy writers for food companies try to shoehorn the product into everyplace where it doesn't belong.
Often it seems like they are trying to trick naive housewives into making these garish concoctions just to get them to buy MORE product than they normally would...

Some make more sense when you see how common moulded dishes were.
Julia Child for example has many moulded desserts that build crusts out of separate lady fingers or other cookies. In a way similar to the hotdog dish.

>Ölost, beer cheese
I can't find the exact recipe but here is the gist.
Boil milk, pour in a beer.
The beer foams up and coagulates the milk. Making a vague "cheese" on top. It was used as a spread on bread. The leftover liquid was drunk or made into soup.
It was supposed to be common in northern Europe and apparently existed in Britain according to Linné in the 18th century.
By the early 20th century it was considered to have no culinary value. With the quoted saying "beer cheese makes no one happy."

Excuse the absolutely fucked colour. I will probably not make this again for a better picture. It's actually a pale beige colour.
It wasn't good. I tried a few different ratios and beers. Drinking the beer/milk mix was kind of ok.
