What is the best sake you've had? I know there's shit better than Suigei but it's been a pretty faithful go-to.

>> No.19215226

I can't recommend any, but I've been wanting to get to know more about sake other than just the bit that comes with my $10 roll at the sushi restaurant by my house.

>> No.19215227

I have never liked sake but several of my friends love that shit. What's a bottle I could try that isn't stupid expensive for someone that just is either starting out or hasn't found one he liked (yet)

I ordered some random sake off the menu at a sushi place in old town, and it was the best I have ever had. Shame I don't remember the name.

The best sake is the one you make at home because you're proud of yourself.

I like the cloudy snow white (?) stuff in the pink bottle. It's the most basic bitch stuff but I like it and I'm not pretentious.

Junmai Taru Sake. Any other opinion is wrong. Also drink it out of a masu box for the perfect taste.

Only one I've had was tyku coconut sake
An old post some anon made about him and a friend getting drunk off it and fucking was enough to sell me on it
Enjoyed it enough to drink 3 bottles of the stuff

Aren't these 2L bottles like $8 in Japan? No wonder they drink themselves to a stupor.

>> No.19217192

>>19217183
Yeah, it's cheap shit like Gekkeisan is in the States but the average "shitty" 2L in Japan is moderate to above average here. It's why you see some drunkards in anime always carry those huge ass bottles.

Damn, I find even cheap sake pretty drinkable compared to cheap beers or $3 wine, so I'd probably be in danger in Japan

Tbf Gekkeisan and other cheap stuff has gotten loads better than it was like a decade ago. It's still primarily cooking sake but at least restaurants can serve it without it tasting like ethanol. Never chill cheap sake though. That shit is only for the good stuff. Heated sake will always taste good no matter how cheap it is though.

I think the name was kitchizimon from a little Japanese restaurant in NYC, I've never been able to find that in stores and don't know the moon rune characters for it. It was really good,.

I find the opposite, I can't stand warm sake, especially the cheap stuff. I usually take my sake and shochu ice cold.

is it not Rice Wine?

>> No.19217226

The cheap stuff is guaranteed to give the drinker a pretty bad hangover, but that's same for any alkyhol, even worse if methanol then that leads to blindness.

>> No.19221097

The three most common (and cheapest) brands I have near me are Gekkeikan, Hakutsuru, and Tozai
Which should I go for as a total beginner to sake? Or should I just pick up the small 300ml bottles for each kind of style/brand I see
I always get worried I'm wasting sake because the autists on reddit claim that if a certain brand/style is not heated/chilled correctly, you will become hurt

mirror of truth is great, fruity but dry and reasonably priced
if you want to burn money, heavensake is very good but more wine-like
