They’re supposed to be safer than real snus because it’s just nicotine and binders and flavors and doesn’t have any of the other compounds in tobacco.

First proper smoke of spring, some people like sucking off Alec Bradley so I picked some up. So far not too impressed. A bit tight and it doesn’t want to burn evenly. I am a dentist and I can clearly tell when someone has been using dip tobacco due to the thickening and hyperkeratinization of the tissue. This doesn't seem to be as big of a problem with snus, since they undergo an alkalinization process with ammonium nitrate (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong) process that removes a lot of the natural acidity of tobacco that tends to cause irritation and tissue loss (and possibly cancer as well due to the higher cell turnover).

Not many people in the states use snus so I don't have a good sense of that but I can say flat out that unless someone tells me they use Zyn or other nicotine pouches I would have no idea otherwise. I don't see any of the same signs of tissue irritation and/or thickening that you see with smoking, dip, or any other kind of natural tobacco use. Oral lozenges or pouches with tobacco-free nicotine is in my opinion the safest way to consume it IMO.

Only downside to Zyn and most nicotine pouch makers in America is they have gay baby flavors for American palates, it's like 5 different kinds of mint, cinnamon, coffee, and unflavored. I've been ordering tobacco Zyn and lemon-bergamot flavored ones of another brand online from an EU site and they're pretty good. The bergamot ones even contain xylitol which does have some anticavity properties.

Yeah it's finely shredded tobacco, as far as I know it's only still produced by two brands, one in Japan and one in Belgium. You can't get it shipped from Japan, you can only import it by taking it in your bags, so that's damn expensive to do. I don't know how hard it is to get the tobacco from the belgian brand, but from what I can read it's not easy; it's also apparently thicker than the japanese brand, not quite hair-like. I'm in Japan right now, so I might try and get some if it's worth it. I haven't smoked tobacco normally, but I'm not against the idea of a rare "couple times a year" pipe or cigar smoke.

when you start getting into pricier pipes, it's more about the artistic value than the smoking capability. A 10$ corn cob will more or less smoke the same as a 100$ briar (with exceptions im sure). I mean this is a subjective observation I've made, these products have not been studied in a rigorous way in any form that I know of. My point really was that if you want to take in nicotine in some form, oral pouches or lozenges is probably the safest way to do so. I can't speak to your specific situation apart from saying that 10-12 per day seems like a lot and my gums bleed too if I forget to floss (which still happens despite being a dentist, albeit rarely). The devastating effects of actual tobacco use on your teeth is well documented, however, although I attribute this to dip tobacco being extremely acidic and harsh to the tissue and from ash/soot and tar impaction into oral tissues from smoking. I do 5-8 per zyns per day and haven't noticed any issues personally.

If you really want to see bleeding gums, have someone who never flosses do a full round of flossing every contact, you'll really see a gore show then.

Is it probably best practice for oral health to not use any nicotine products at all? Yeah, probably. Are pouches or lozenges safer than almost any other option? Almost certainly.

for me, it's the 6 oz. can of bugler, rolling paper (included but not enough), filter tips, hand rolled. it's definitely a budget buy since i get ~500 cigarettes for $45-$50 after buying filter tips and extra rolling paper. i used to buy camel 99's when they were $5/pack but now everythings $10-$12/pack so i made the switch. the tobacco is surprisingly good and wish i could find bugler turkish blend in cans at smoke shops since i really like turkish blend tobacco.

I think cigarillos are a good place to start, given that there are actual cigars of the same blend offered. They're much cheaper, last anywhere from 15-30 mins and taste just like a cigar, so it's not a big deal if you buy one to try and learn that you don't like cigars. I recommend trying a more standard cigarillo to start with, but if you find that you like cigars and have a sweet tooth, I recommend trying Drew Estate's Tabak Especial, which is offered in a cigarillo size. The tobacco is coffee infused and both dark and light variants taste very sweet, I'd describe it to be dessert-like. Personally I prefer the dark wrapper but I only have a good picture of the light one.
Needless to say, if you do pick up smoking, try to only do so as a treat. It's not good for you, and I find that excess spoils some of the enjoyment.

Switched from cigs to pipe tobacco recently. Usually a bag of Good Stuff or Gambler, open the bag before I’m more than halfway done with the previous bag (had to learn the hard way) to let it dry out out just about a day and quarter and it’s good to smoke. Cleaning out my pipe is a bitch though, usually bend a piece of paperclip and clean out the tip and bowl area once every seven sessions.

nicotine has proven to be much more difficult to quit than hard drugs due to it not having immediate and obvious negative effects. it's been a consistent 10 cigs a day for over a decade.

Smoking-adjusted estimates were only significant for oropharyngeal cancer (1.36, CI 1.04-1.77, n = 19) and prostate cancer (1.29, 1.07-1.55, n = 4). The oropharyngeal association disappeared for estimates published since 1990 (1.00, 0.83-1.20, n = 14), for Scandinavia (0.97, 0.68-1.37, n = 7), and for alcohol-adjusted estimates (1.07, 0.84-1.37, n = 10). Any effect of current US products or Scandinavian snuff seems very limited.

This is good advice. There are cheap pipes out there looking like wood but are plastic in reality. Bad, bad, bad idea to try smoke from a plastic pipe. I would like to add how much pipes dont matter, a 30$ will smoke just as fine as a 300$ piece, your experience mostly depends on how you pack the bowl and your personal taste for one or another type of tobacco. I would advise to get different types of tobacco from aromatics to high nicotine ones. There is a pipe tobacco out there for every mouths taste, you just have to find it.

A friend would smoke cigars when we'd go to bars. I've always liked the smell of the smoke of tobacco and one night I asked for one, he handed me a honey infused one, loved it. Continued to smoke with him at hangouts and as we got busy with our lives I started smoking on my own out of habit and to think back.
I really should stop, I have some sort of lung issue I've yet to get diagnosed. Had it long before I started smoking but it surely isn't helping.

You are not supposed to inhale cigar smoke, it should not affect your lungs.

I don't inhale, but you can't stop 100% of the smoke and it'll linger in the air long enough that you'll breath some in if there's no draft. It doesn't irritate them any where near as bad as aerosols or dust, but I'm quite sensitive and sometimes I'll get some minor discomfort and a light cough for the rest of the day.

Synthetic nicotine is better in every way. Stronger high, better for you. You have to be autistic to stick to tobacco

Counter point:

Cob pipes are to pipe smoking what drinking wine from a solo cup is.

Not much to get a decent pipe.
