does most wild caught fish have parasites? are there any types of fish where it's less likely? yesterday i'm pretty sure my cod had worms in it and i threw it all out and i don't think i'll ever be able to eat fish again now

>> No.19148227

>>19148202
The heat of the cooking kills the worms.

>> No.19148230

Most wild game has parasites. Some are harmless to humans, some aren't. Fish tend to be safer in this regard. But all animals that live without veterinary care are gonna have something hitchhiking on them, it's just how nature works. If it's dead from cooking it's not a problem. Just protein.

Cultured fish are more at risk, so are predatory fish like salmon, mackerel, cod, swordfish and tuna. It's becoming a huge problem because cultured fish obviously infect their wild cousins.

If it was after cooking then you probably didn't see a worm but one of 2 nerves that goes through the fish's flesh at the sides of the spine.

Not a photoshopped worm at all.

Cod often has worms but if you cook it, you kill them.

For more than a year now I've been absolutely terrified that I'm infected with a parasite, all because of something I thought I saw in a bowel movement over a year ago
Because of that I've constantly psyched myself out over symptoms like recurring bouts of stomach pain and soft bowel movements. However I drink A LOT of alcohol and this was always normal for me.

I don't know what to do to stop worrying. I'm so scared.

most common parasites are easily treatable once you notice them (if you do at all, tons of people carry them and dont even know). not sure why youre shitting yourself so hard.

All animals have parasites. You have thousands of parasites inside you right now. This is a fact of life.
For fish, nearly all wild fish have parasites inside as well. Why wouldn’t they? This includes things like tinned mackerel and sardines. If you open and dig through 3-4 cans, I guarantee you will find at least 6 parasites like your pic.
If you cook your fish, any parasite will die. Stop being a dumb faggot

almost all fish has parasites, if you cook it to temp it doesn't matter
you can also get some fish that has been deep frozen or do it yourself with a deep freezer if you want to make your own sushi...normal freezer will not work

I went through what you did after I had some bad sushi and had all the signs of worms, intense stomach pain within 24h, took 2 to 3 weeks to clear up (when the fuckers usually die off). sometimes they get stuck in your throat and make their way into your lungs, heart, muscles, etc but it's a little more rare. Usually they just give you hell for a while.

personally I won't touch sushi anymore even though I got sick once in like 50 times going there, but it's your call. it took me like 3 months before I would even touch fish again, I was super paranoid

maybe, chances are every fish has atleast some form of parasite big or small inside it.
So always cook your fish, or if you do sashimi make sure the it has been frozen to kill the parasites
