If I'm buying mayo from the store I do like kewpie best. It genuinely just tastes better than Hellman's or any other store bought mayo I've tried. Tangier, eggier? If that's a word. Homemade is always best though

That's some terrible packaging. Maybe it's a cultural thing.

Interesting that they're different formulas. I guess that's why whenever I have Jap friends online sing praises of Kewpie they're eating a different product entirely. The one in the US seems like the vinegar they use is almost sickly sweet and has an energy drink sweetener kind of taste. Obviously not as extreme as that but Kewpie to me (from a US perspective) tastes more like Miracle Whip than a decent mayo but I dunno. It might just taste better on Jap foods as well, it wasn't too bad when I made Onigiri recently. Subbing it on sandwiches is just bad.

I used extra virgin olive oil once when making mayo and found its taste way too strong and bitter. Maybe I screwed it up, though. Anyway, I don't think you can't make mayo with eggs as the primary ingredient so I think it's pretty clear in this context they mean they don't use the whole egg.

Fucktard. Traditionally, mayo is made with whole eggs, oil, and vinegar. Kewpie is made with egg yolks, oil, and vinegar. They leave out the whites which results in a richer flavor.
