I find snacks and all that overpriced at the movies. I usually smuggle in 2 cans of beer and a little candy, that's about it. Maybe a small bottle of water as extra.

At home it all depends on the day and mood, some tea, maybe some wine and usually I watch movies when eating dinner.

Softer foods. Anything crunchy like chips or popcorn distract me because autism, and make it hard to hear quieter dialogue too. I always have beer on hand, if not mixed drinks, but something like soft fruits such as grapes, or humus and naan are great examples. With how I really love meat snacks, I'll sometimes have strips of a beef roast, sliced sausages, jerky, or sardines or herring, depending on the vibe of the film.

Forgot to mention I only watch movies at home, no previews or anything for me. I pirate, so it's always straight to the film.
I snack during movies just for taste, not because I'm hungry. For example, one of the coziest times I can remember was watching Leviathan all cozy on my little sofa and enjoying a few cans of sardines with dill and mustard with a 5th of bottom shelf rum, soaking my hardtack in it.

Ah, I gotcha. Well thats neat but I don't get the distraction. Maybe all this time it hasn't been my irritation with gross crunchy crunch disruptions and the focus. do you not live in america? i was in high school (late nineties) the first time they showed a commercial before a film we had just paid for. we all stood up and booed. it's like ubiquitous now. at the drafthouse they do previews and all that, but also all kinds of other fun stuff. they'll cut together a preshow full of all kinds of weird clips that are in some way related to the film. random old commercials the actors did, interviews, all kinds of interesting and oddball stuff. the people running the drafthouse legit love movies and it definitely shows, i think, even though most of the locations are now franchises.

My local is a sorta chain called Harkins and they have management walk every theatre 3 times per show to take care of idiots and check sound and picture and room temp or w.e. they're as big as an AMC or w.e but nicer, cheaper, loungers, show indie shit, foreign shit, 5 dollar classics on Tuesdays, all sorts of stuff, which is likely why I don't Alamo often. Popcorn with butter and salt. Throw in some peanut M&Ms in the middle and take your time going through it. Should last the movie.

I fell for the Flavacol meme. To me it just tastes exactly like microwave popcorn. What I do now is make my own clarified butter and use that for stovetop popcorn. Why use fake butter flavor and yellow #5? I'm pretty sure Flavacol exists to cut costs from not using actual butter. It brags about profits all over the container.

I do like the white popcorn kernels though. They are not as big and fluffy as yellow, but I think it's crisper and ends up with less rock hard half-popped kernels.

iirc from internet research, flavacol is finer cut salt so it better covers the kernels. The fake butter flavor is incidental

the only kind of popcorn I like are the sweet and salty ones from those overpriced single serving microwave ones

I would love to make my own popcorn if I could make them taste like that

I used the entire carton, and this doesn't really matter at all. Usually there would be a bunch left over at the bottom of the pot. I use salted clarified butter, and sprinkle a tiny bit of salt over it immediately after it's done popping. This works better than just adding Flavacol beforehand. I can see how if you were making huge amounts like at a movie theater you might want to do it the Flavacol way, but even then there's nothing special about fine salt.

I was thinking of making my own version that is just finely ground salt and MSG for use with clarified butter.

Yeah bud, diverticulitis. I had that shit, had to go to hospital for scan. Not sure if it came from popcorn or chia seeds tho.

I have resumed for 3 years eating popcorn with no issues and have not touched chia seeds. I'm thinking my issue was a dried chia got stuck then expanded and ouch for me.

I wonder if it would be profitable to create a hamburger restaurant for gay men where the employees deliberately jizzed in the food.
