This happened to me in Japan, I went there thinking I would have my mind blown everywhere but everywhere I went was full of cheap TGI Fridays tier garbage. No matter where you go you really have to plan where you eat, even if the country is known for having an excellent street food culture.

He doesn't hate his own culture. He just prefers Mexican food. He literally always brings up his BBQ history all the time. If it weren't for Mexican food he'd wouldn't have won top chefs masters

I just returned from puerto peñasco and had some of the best food I’ve had in my life there. Specific recommendations:

Moo Steakhouse (everything on the menu was perfect, the ribeye was the best I’ve ever had)
Pedro's Restaurante (Fish tacos were great, drinks were trash)
Los Mtz By Las Gaviotas (Marlin was fantastic as was the dish that was basically shrimp scampi)

Sounds perfect for me because I always plan where I eat to minimize my chances of being dissappointed or poisoned. "Street food" is a scam. It's not "what the locals eat" if they can ever help it. It's the last resort for the lower strata in need of sustenance. It may as well be literally food you picked up from the street from how unhygienic and haphazardly thrown together it is.
