>have to get food for next week of wageslaving
>pretty broke so looking for something cheap yet hearty
>get a couple of these since they're on sale for like a buck
>know damn well they're going to suck
>still amazed at how badly they suck
It was nothing but a shitty brown gravy in some crust. There was like three tiny beef chunks and I can only remember two peas. Do not think there was any potato or carrots. I know you get what you pay for but Jesus Christ

i tried a banquet chicken pot pie once and it was the saltiest thing ive ever put on my tongue, unreal how salty it was

>> No.19013856

I'm not going to argue they're good, that's obviously not true but I've never gotten one that bad. I don't know if I've ever gotten one of the beef ones but the chicken ones usually have a reasonable amount of veggies. Cheap on the chicken, though.

Been there my man. It's not much but at least you can say you ate, you ever tried looking into food banks? The couple I've been too were really nice about not making you feel like you need the food

Just pay a dollar extra for the marie calenders

The chicken ones aren't quite as bleak. Contain at least a marginal amount of chicken and overall don't taste as shitty.

I may end up trying one, the last time I got a bundle from a mobile pantry was a bit of a wash because about 2/3rds of it was stuff my wife is allergic to. It just sucks that a ton of staple foods I'd get to make meals at home have gone up so much lately

>> No.19014121

I know it's not the thread for it but I'm just thinking out loud: You could make chicken pot pie filling and freeze it in a muffin pan. When you want to eat, pull out a couple of chicken pot pie "ice cubes" and eat it with crackers. Alternatively you could make dough that you roll flat, freeze, and throw on top of the "ice cubes" and bake.

Whole chicken pot pies freeze well but it's obviously too much for one. Chicken pot pie is one of those recipes that takes longer than you think.

Don't skip the egg wash. (1 egg scrambled plus 1 tb water.) It makes the surface brown nicely, gives it a nice sheen, reduces burning, and gives flakey salt something to stick to.

Good point, this is the better way to go. OP butter these tins, dump in the filling, and just put the crust on top. (It will be enough.) Also make sure you make the dough circle larger than the top because it will contract during baking. You can freeze them and bake from the frozen pies.

What kind of pie? It's personal preference but for a lot of fruit pies I just prefer a "water wash" and then a sprinkling of sugar. Egg wash can sometimes be too savory and give it a film.

I'd do an egg wash for that. Lattice pies seem to benefit from an egg wash.

>>19014206
I've tested it both ways. For individual pot pies just a top crust is enough you fat fuck. Forming a bunch of bottom crusts into small pot pies is a big pain in the ass, too. If you look around it's common to just do a top crust.

The beef kind sucks. The good ones? Chicken, Salsbury Steak, Turkey, and PICREL

The beef they use in the "beef" is like this touch stringy shit, it's noticeably lesser quality than all the other meats, even the Salsbury meatloaf shit is more satisfying to eat

I regularly see them for 50 and 25 cents. chicken one needs hot sauce or cheese. beef needs cheese or A1. wipe up the dripping with a piece of bread or a scoop of mashed potatoes.

A word of advice, only go to ones affiliated with any sort of Christian church. Secular food banks/pantries aren't meant to serve their respective communities, they only deceive and propagandize them.

What a rubbish looking pie.

You laugh at the Brits but they have much better pies than this.
