Over 2 million Cosori Air Fryers recalled due to fire and burn concerns

Around two million Cosori Air Fryers have been recalled in the US due to reports of fires and burns, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said this week.

The issue is due to a wire connection in the air fryers, which can overheat, posing a fire hazard, CPSC said.

About 250,000 air fryers in Canada and 21,000 in Mexico were also recalled.

Cosori has received 205 reports of the air fryers catching fire, burning, melting, overheating and smoking.

That includes 10 incidents of minor, superficial burn injuries and 23 reports of minor property damage, CPSC said.

"After a thorough investigation, we determined that in extremely rare circumstances, the closed-end crimp connectors within the recalled air fryers - which are responsible for establishing electrical connections between certain wires - can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards," the company said in a statement.

The popular kitchen appliance company - which is owned by Vesync, based in Shenzen, China - said all of its products were "rigorously and routinely tested for consumer safety and are in full compliance with established industry standards".

"Cosori is committed to the safety of those who use and love our products, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience," the company said in the statement.
Cosori asked customers to immediately stop using the air fryer and go to recall.cosori.com to request for a replacement of their choice. Customers must send a photo of the recalled product but do not need a receipt to be eligible.

The air fryers, which cost between $70 (£58) and $130 (£108), were sold at popular brick-and-mortar stores and online sites including Best Buy, Target, Amazon and Walmart from June 2018 through December 2022, CPSC said.

Several models in 3.7-quart (3.5 litre) and 5.8-quart (5.48 litre) sizes were affected.

just buy the original Philips airfryer and not a knockoff. it just werks (i hate apple btw), never had any issues whatsoever, still going strong after 5 years of usage. it's too expensive for it's cause but works really well after endless usage.

I mean its just a small convection oven that works really well.
You put in a steel basket for "air frying" and you put the cast iron grill grate for "grilling".

Cleanup is wiping the bottom out and you clean the grill or basket. It no different than cleaning a dirty sheet pan.
I personally put parchment paper in the bottom of the air fryer basket to keep it from getting dirty. I can cook fries 3-4 times with new parchment every time before it actually gets gunky or dirty.

So can we all agree that air fryers are memes? I mean they're just tiny plastic toaster ovens. I don't really understand the point of them unless you live in a tiny piece of shit apartment with only a 1x1 square of counter space.
Because I have an air fryer and a toaster oven, and the air fryer is slightly easier because there's no settings on it. You just turn it on and set the temperature. But it's way too small for anything more than a pile of mozzarella sticks or whatever. And even still everything's piled up on top of each other. I don't get it.

>So can we all agree that air fryers are memes?
No because I used it for salmon once because of speed and I've never ever had such wonderful texture that I've actually started cutting the salmon steaks into smaller strips to increase surface area. 400F for 10 minutes, it's so controlled and consistent.
>I mean they're just tiny plastic toaster ovens.
Yes but they're not plastic and I think the tiny size is what makes them kick in end result.
>I don't really understand the point of them unless you live in a tiny piece of shit apartment with only a 1x1 square of counter space.
I think if space is an issue you wouldn't even use the air fryer, it's too niche for how much space it takes up.

Not a meme. Just like a 4th gen pressure cooker. Ultimately it's a pressure cooker, which you don't use for everything but it's a powertool for kitchen stuff, sometimes you can really get something special by using it.

I'm just not getting that crispiness using a toaster oven instead of the air fryer. In fact I can understand why I would use an air fryer on occasion instead of attempting to do it via oven, but I honestly am just annoyed that I even have a toaster oven.

ive been using one of these every day for a year and i havent had any issues. i went through the recall forms and cutting the cord seems like a pain in the ass.

however, they're offering an electric kettle and a fancy glass pourover in lieu of a replacement. i think i might just photoshop a fake picture for proof and get that kettle for free.

I picked up an air fryer because of how hard they're being shilled, and it's actually great. My quick snack of tendies used to take 21 minutes in the oven, it only takes 12 minutes in the air fryer and the outside gets super crispy.

I'm not a big fan of the cleanup, though. Has anyone bought those silicone baskets you can find? They're like 5 bucks, and if I can get a couple and just run them through the dishwasher, cleanup becomes trivial.
