I really hate goyslop desserts that are way too sweet.
I had raspberry sorbet at a restaurant and it was so good while being sour

Why would you add sugar to cheese and port?

Can't do it in ice cream since balancing the sugar is needed for it to freeze right

if you're going to make it shitty, you should do a whole food fruit sweetened dessert instead so it's much more nutritious and satisfying

i usually eat zero added sugar, just lots of fruit, mostly bananas, dates, and citrus

it's nice having a powerful blender that leaves motor brush particles all over the countertop

This is something I am considering doing. How does it affect stuff like cakes/chocolate tortes?

>cheese and port
Just because something is after the main course doesn't mean it is a dessert. Desserts are sweet by definition, you're just talking about a cheese course. You could even call it supper, but not dessert

>> No.18956026

>>18956013
it depends on the recipe, but texture and taste can be affected. i'd start by removing 1/4 of the sugar and seeing how that goes.

Frosting kind of mandates high sugar cintent but there’s no reason to have ultra sweet frosting and ultra sweet cake. I usually just do the bare minimum of sugar it takes to make the cake palatable.

that sounds like a shitty recipe unless it was supposed to make 4 pounds of icing.

I've heard this trick too - apparently salt and sugar are perceived by the same taste receptors, so adding little salt allows you to get away with noticeably less sugar, without compromising the flavor too much.

Ive tried removing some of the sugar in stuff like carrot cake because i felt bad using so much, but then it just sucked. Just accept that its a dessert and its going to be sweet, and get some more exercise or eat less that day.

Bullshit. I do this with recipes where sugar isn't integral to texture, and they usually still taste too sweet. Your tastebuds have been desensitized by overconsumption.

most cakes freeze really well. slice it, put it in the freezer, and then pull out a piece whenever you want.

I do this for all american recipies. Followed a brownie recipe once and it became inedibly sweet.
