Depends, it's quite common to serve an espresso shot with a very small glass of sparkling water on the side to help cleanse your palette but it's not mandatory or certain - if a place does in fact serve that way it's probably a reasonable sign that they think their coffee is worth tasting, but not a hard or fast rule.

Hey /ck/! I'm a homebrewer. I've brewed hundreds or maybe thousands of cups using the popular methods of french press, moka pot, mr coffee coffee maker, folgers singles bags, and keurig. Am I qualified for an apprentice at Starbucks? My primary goals would be to hook up with baristas, have baristas be mean to me, or both.

>> No.18944440

I think the cheapest electric grinder anyone would recommend would be something like the wilfa or baratza encore and those are both well above $100. If you wanna go cheaper you'd need to go manual, the timemore c2 or low end kingrinders.

>> No.18944507

>>18944426
What's the situation? Presumably you have some sort of setup at home. Why not just get a thermos, cheaper for sure if it's an option.

Usually they say grinders cheaper than C2 aren't worth it, triple it for electric. But maybe just the fact it's freshly ground would cheer her up.

PLease refer the correct language as in POC coffee.
The best way to drink POC coffee out of a bialetti is to pour it into a container. Try to shoot for a ratio of 100% POC coffee as anything less would make it a mulatto coffe. The POC coffee is then ready for consumption. I must say boofing it really brings in the vibrancy and ethnicity with a pinch of realism reminding you of your wife's boyfriend.

Anon depends what the norm is where you live.

I spent 20 years in yuropooria, espresso and 2dl of sparkling water was my norm order.

If you order sparkling water, you get a single serve bottle of it, if you order by dl, they pour you a glass from a big bottle. Both is valid, just your preference.

Most Burgers can't into coffee and burgerland labor is way more expensive than Yuropoor so burger cafes skimp on service. So it's never the same feel as going to a yuropoor cafe.
However best espresso I ever had was from hipster in middle of nowhere buttfuck Texas. I just had to bring it to my table from the counter which still degrades the experience bellow the shittiest yuropoor cafe where a pissed of underachiever brings it to table for me.
>inb4 ashtray in pic
This is another level up to the experience still only available to balkanfags.
You have not lived until you walk into a cafe on a rainy evening to enjoy tobacco products while a cute waitress keeps bringing you espressos.
I'm not saying become and addict, but do yourself a favor and do this.
Balkanfags accidentally achieved nirvana out of their retardation and found a way to feel joy you can only dream of for 2EUR a pop.

The papers it uses are way bigger and thicker so they filter out alot of tasty oils(its why some people really like it). Also it being smooth glass with no ridges or channels means its very prone to the paper completely choking itself off and stalling your brew. Its just an expensive inconvenience and hard to recommend compared to something super cheap like a $10 v60. Chemex looks way better than it brews.

How do you stop leaks when brewing in an Aeropress using the "standard" orientation? Been using the hoffmeme method and even if I place the piston into the brew chamber to "create a vacuum", it still leaks about 20g of coffee through during the immersion phase. If I push the piston in then pull it back up, it does prevent drips (although there's a little bit that goes through during the initial insertion). But pulling back seems to fuck up the pressure inside and usually causes the filter paper to wrinkle (which allows grinds to fall into the mug). The inverted method might be an option, but I've scaled up the doses to use 250ml water so I'd struggle to fit in all the water if I did brew inverted.

I still mess up once in a while, although it's like once a month, but when I do it right I only get a few drips of coffee through. I'm also using a relatively fine grind which probably helps.
If you just can't manage it no matter how you try you could get a prismo like the other anon suggested.

You don't even need to shell out money for expensive beans. It literally changes with every batch of coffee. Moka is volumetric fill stop over thinking it. If your coffee tastes like shit it's because of bad temp surfing or an uneven bed. WDT and flatten by hand. Don't do the screw in method.

What's the best way for me to make coffee? My requirements are:
- I don't care too much about the taste. I just need to get that caffeine inside me. But tasting good would be a nice bonus.
- make a cup at a time
- low maintenance (nothing I need to buy repeatedly such as filters, preferably less cleanup)
- cheap, non-electric device, using boiling water and commercial (yes, sue me) preground coffee beans
- brewing straight into my thermos (without an intermediate container) would be neat
- I won't be autistic about measuring my water and coffee, so it should be flexible

2) Use exactly the ratios advised
3) Put into instant coffee jar (since they're flattened rather than round) with filtered water
4) Steep for 12 hours
This renders a rather consistent cold brew concentrate. Fill a highball glass with ice cubes and stir 7-10 times until it's frosted over. Pour off excess water. Fill until the first cube is half/fully covered. Fill rest up with whole milk.
